I just read something on The Possible Canine and seems people are starting to have similar problems with Innova.

innova? omg no way.. eeks.. that is not good.. Yeah, I know, soooo not good. I'm getting that queasy feeling again every time I buy dog food. *sigh* Has anyone seen/read the book called Pet Food Politics? It was reviewed in the recent WDJ. Looks pretty good, I'm planning on checking it out.

My guy's on a very bland mostly vegetarian diet. I'm kinda hesitant to switch him because of his allergies. He's so sensitive. Plus feeding a base vegetarian food would be harder than doing BARF I think. Based on what I've looked into so far.

I just bought a bag of Canidae. I think I fed one other since the formula change. I am upset about the Diamond thing more than anything else. It is so difficult to find a quality, affordable food that is processed by the home company. Maybe I will go back to Nature's Variety again. I am also feeding Blue Buffalo because I get discounts from them, but they contract as well.

I know this an old thread, but is canidae ok to feed?
I've been feeding my dogs the canidae for all stages for about 2 months now. They don't seem to have any problems with it, and I certainly can afford it. I also give them each half a can of wet canidae once a day to make it more appealing.
I know if they are hungry enough they will eat, but I figure, I like good food, why can't they?

I think if you haven't had any problems, it's ok. Canidae is still one of the most high quality foods you can buy. The problem with Canidae stemmed from a formula change.
Here is an notice from the Canidae site:
From the Desk of John Gordon and Scott Whipple 2/24/2009 At CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods, we constantly strive to provide the highest quality and safest products to our consumers.
In May 2008, we set out to enhance the safety and quality of our Lamb and Rice dry pet foods. We had two overall goals: to improve our formulations using the safest, highest quality ingredients available; and to find a partner who could manufacture our products to exact safety, quality and consistency standards. One month later, in June 2008, we introduced the improved All Life Stages (ALS), Chicken and Rice and Platinum dry pet foods. These products are among the safest, highest quality products available to pet owners today.
When we introduced the reformulated products, we took steps to inform consumers, retailers, distributors, and breeders about the change and about our products’ advanced safety, quality and consistency. The information was also prominently featured on our website. We have worked closely with pet owners to address the transition, and the vast majority of our customers switched to the new diets without issue. It is also important to note that at no time has our product testing indicated any safety issues with our products.
As you may have heard, we have recently been sued over the improvements we made last year to our dry formulations. The lawsuit was filed by a single person who claims that the improvements were actually unsafe cost-cutting measures. Rest assured that these allegations are completely untrue, and we fully expect that this lawsuit will be shown to have absolutely no merit.
The truth is that, beginning in May of 2008, we improved our dry formulations to make them better and safer for pets. The new formulation is actually more expensive to produce than our previous version, but our consumers expect us to continue to strive for better, safer, more nutritious products, and that’s what our improved formulations deliver.
Our reformulated products include higher quality ingredients than before. Coupled with advanced manufacturing processes and rigorous safety testing, CANIDAE foods are among the safest, highest quality products a pet owner can buy.
We receive positive feedback from our customers on a daily basis. We are committed to providing high quality products that are thoroughly tested in the plant and by third parties to assure safety and consistency. As always, we will continue to place the best interest of pets at the heart of every decision we make.
Respectfully,
John Gordon & Scott Whipple Founders and Owners of CANIDAE Pet Foods

If your dogs are doing fine on it, I'd say no biggie. I was feeding Canidae when the formula change happened and didn't see it coming. When I broke open the new bag, all three dogs for the three weeks on that bag had YELLOW poop. It was disgusting and I immediately took them off of it when the bag ran out. Within 2 days on the new stuff, their poop was back to normal.
I was NOT impressed with how things were handled with the formula change and I was severely disappointed in the "quality of poop." lol

Yeah, they seem to be too dismissive, and believe they have no fault in regards to how this situation was handled, and claim they gave people appropriate notice, but some people still missed it! IMO, they should have very obviously labeled the bags with the new formula. I don't feed Canidae but I'm assuming notice was given in a more easily missed way.

The only thing I noticed different about the bag is that they quit making them with the easy open flap.
I'm really disappointed in how it was all handled and won't be going back. And it sucks because the dogs were doing really well on the old formula and it was cost effective for the crew.

Just because Diamond processed the food doesn't have anything to do with it. Diamond process other foods as well- like Taste of the Wild and Chicken Soup for the Dog lover soul. I was feeding my dogs Canidae and even with the formula change they did fine. Once I got Ja-Bar and did the fully transition with him I noticed that his poop was too soft, it was not running it just was too soft to pick up. So I went ahead and changed all of them to ToTW I didn't want my dogs to be on one food and the pup on a different one, but I really liked how my dogs did with Canidae.

Well I took Rocky to vet in October and he was amazed at how good he looked and that my white hair pink skined naked belly dog did not have any signs what so ever of skin conditions. He told me to keep doing whatever I have been doing. Since day one In my home Rocky has been on Fromm Family Foods. Originally the gold line later changing to four star line. A few months after that visit my local pet store closed. An in an effort to get another local store to order for me they offered up a sample of innova. Aprox a week later I knew Rocky was behind me cause he smelled like stinky cheese. Then I noticed a raw area between his legs. Vet said it was yeast infection probably something new he ate. Being a pup who eats about everything. I cant say it was trying the dog food. But no way in hell Im changing the food now. The yeast infection got bad so fast that it had to be treated aggressively especially since he never experienced these issues before. They go changing formula I gonna be PO'd. What ever happened to the days of Alpo and the dog lives 16 years? Have something to do whith being made in china?
