Is it weird to go into the pet store and browse dog food for ingredients? I spent more time checking out different dog foods, than I did looking at anything else.

I read dog food bags all the time when I'm shopping. Matilda is probably not coming off the Blue buffalo basics since it seems to be the only thing to keep her stools firm, but I can't get those last 3 lbs off George and the vet is talking Science diet RX food.
I've been taking George and Matilda to the field by my house to run off leash for exercise. Matilda loves it and runs like a maniac, but George just wants to explore even though he's been out there 100 times. I think George has actually GAINED weight since his last visit and Matilda was in 2 weeks ago and she lost 2 lbs. The vet said she's at a good weight, she just doesn't need to lose any more

Oh no ME, that sucks. Get lots of rest. I refused to stay home from work when I had a sinus infection, and didn't get enough rest. Now I have bronchitis too, and I'm not improving much. The antibiotic has done only a little good, and I'm using my inhaler every couple hours. I'm going back to the doctor on Friday and they will probably do a chest xray. So I may be in the same boat. Hope you're feeling better soon. This had been a nasty winter.

I love my husband to death. He's very smart and takes calculus classes for fun. However, sometimes he is a bonehead.
He's a a raging stomach bug for 3 days and is finally better, but he's dehydrated and cramping. I've danced professionally, so I told him what every ballet teacher and director has told me about cramping. Go drink some pickle juice.
What I MEANT was go drink pickle juice out the fridge. NOT drink from the jar I took out the fridge to make room for groceries that got hidden behind the coffee container and did not get thrown away for 3 weeks.
This is somehow my fault

My sister sent me a txt msg last night, telling me that one of the families that adopted one of her Redbone Coonhound, Australian Shepard puppies is giving up. Calling the puppy untrainable. I'm calling the owner lazy.
Yeah, these puppies are not easy. Mine is always up to something, and the attention, exercise, and training is never enough time for her. She wants more attention, more play, more food, more, more, more! Her potty habits are an all day babysitting job. She drives me nuts! She's naughty, she's sweet and funny and smart. Given time she'll be an excellent dog. Her breed traits are very evident!
But I'll never again have a puppy!!!

We had a very rough few weeks.
Fred became ill in Jan. during the first -20 cold snap. She recovered, but was just not "right". She was very thin, and was not developing her udder as she should. I was giving her all the vitamins and minerals, plus yummy treats, and she was not getting much better. A few weeks later she developed hoof issues and the vet prescribed some pain meds and an antibiotic. About 4 days later, she was still unable to rise. Her body was ready to deliver her kids, but she was making no progress. She was lying with her head twisted behind her, and I knew it was time. The vet came and tried giving her some calcium in hopes that she was just hypocalcemic. No change. Ten minutes later I made the decision to do a terminal C-section. The vet pulled out 2 kids, a boy and a girl. The boy had a rough start and needed both epi and atropine to get him going. The girl was doing well from the start.
About 36 hours later, the boy stopped eating. I tried everything for any possible complication that a 1 day old goat could have. He passed overnight. The antibiotic the vet gave Fred is a known teratogen, which may explain why he died.
The girl, named Hippo (like Hungry Hungry Hippo), is doing fabulously and living in my bathroom. She is my baby. She never met her real mom, so she doesn't even know what it is to be a goat. In a few weeks she will join the herd and hopefully be able to protect herself from the big mean adults.
We have a few goats left to kid, and I hope and pray for a very smooth delivery with big, healthy kids.

Riddle me this: A 24 yr old has two children, ages 3 and 1 1/2, and pregnant with another. (her second came about because she admits she can't remember to take the pill, after the second she had an IUD, but it fell out.) She has been with the same guy for 7 years, and they have lived together the last 6. She tells her dr. that she wants to get her tubes tied after this baby. He said, no, what if you get married and want to have more kids later. She tells him that she doesn't want anymore kids, can't afford anymore kids. If she does happen to want more kids, she'll suffer through reversal or IVF. If she an afford that then she can afford another kid. (No) Her next appointment she brings it up again. He says no, you're not married, and you're not 28.
This same dr. gave a vasectomy to a 20 yr old male who had two children. (same dr as the woman)
Why can't a 23 yr old woman decide to never have anymore kids, and be denied the medical option, but a 20 yr old male can make this decision? I'm going to call my dr. office Monday and talk to my PA. and see what she advises her to do. Or which dr. to go see! This sort of crap ticks me off to no end!

We have a full house at the shelter this weekend, total of 11 dogs. 3 of which are boarders. One is a neat Sheba Inu, fantastic dog! The other two are from the same home. One is Goose, a big black mix retriever mix that ended up in impound last summer. She was adopted to a great family. Her pal is a Benji looking dog, young, and with tons of hair. She has had the poops big time. I cleaned their kennel 4 times yesterday, the morning person cleaned it both mornings. Of course, the family didnt supply their usual food. As usual, most boarding happens on the weekends, so m-f staff rarely has to deal with the horrors of a dog switching out foods at a drop of a hat. Today it was ungodly disgusting. I moved the two dogs to the police kennels, and hosed theirs down, scrubbed and sanitized. I decided that Benji dog wouldn't be going back in w/ Goose, so I shuffled dogs. When I went to get her, I realized just how covered in poop she was. I figured she'd need a bath before she went home.. but I couldn't leave her like she was. Covered from head to toe in poop. I had my daughter bring Winstons conditioner, and a blow dryer. (it's -1 right now!)
I called the shelter manager and told her what was going on, and from now on ALL boarders must supply their own food! I'll email the board members later. I spent 4 1/2 hours cleaning today. None of the dogs got any one on one, except for the Sheba.
Next time, I'm taking photos and sending them to the board. lol

I should have known today would be a winner when Winston woke me up at 4 am, he didn't really want to go outside, he just wanted to eat breakfast. (which he didn't get) He's never woken me up in the middle of the night like this. I just came home to the trash all over the living room. He worked hard to get his crate door just right so he could wiggle out. The lock was still in place, but the bottom clips were out. He's smart, and persistent... I'll give him that.

I was lucky when rufus was 3 to have met 2 shins, they are aloof cool catlike dogs. The owner said they were hard to house train but once it was done they were fine, said they were more cat like in personality (like alot of northern breeds) but also good dogs
Im still home Michele, as long as i dont move i can breathe fine, once i start moving it is harder to catche my breathe. I go back to work Wednesday as i only have 4 sick days for this to use, then back to dr then more X-rays to see if thd biaxin is working

This one seemed pretty stable, It wasn't stressed, and was taking the boarding in stride. He knows his obedience, and a few tricks and we had fun playing together. I think he belongs to the family that lives in a house behind the apartments my daughter used to live it. I'd see it from time to time and admire it. I can see where their disposition could be called cat like. I found out the benji looking dog is only 5-6 mos old. I ended up calling the owner to let them know what was going on. I checked with them to be sure it was ok to give her some pumpkin. Came back at dinner time and 9pm with no more messes. *yay* Winston broke out of his crate a second time yesterday, even made sure it was secure. He's figured out if he uses his muzzle to head butt and lift, the bottom clips will be free, then he ccould squeeze out. I just added another clip today and he was stuck. ME, take it slow and don't push yourself too hard. I haven't been sick like that in years, since then if my lungs start feeling 'funky' I slow down and start taking better care of myself. Hopefully Weds will find you doing better.
