the rescues and breeders i approached flat out said no fence no dog.. after telling them all the years experience i had, giving 6 references plus 3 vet references, job references and apt manager references they still said no... it was a combo of no fence, no house ownership, me working a job, me having a pitbullx dog, and that was it... which to me was pretty sad. well except 11th who approved me but said i had to hurry up to look at dogs as they get adopted fast on a first come first serve basis of who looks at them first (not by app lol) .. i will always have a rescue dog, it just wont be the rescue route unless i know someone in that rescue or thru craigslist. i know what i am looking for and know how to test a dog, so that is not an issue with me. its just more for the people who really want a dog and who jump thru hoops to be denied for stupid reasons. i mean seriously, mary and i both get denied lol from rescues yet we are stellar owners lol...

It is pretty ridiculous. And I can't believe they told you to hurry up and look at dogs as they get adopted fast and on a first come, first serve basis. I can tell you from experience they don't fully operate that way. I mean, they do first come, first serve basis for dogs without applications at adoption events, but if you request a meet and greet with a dog, that dog shouldn't attend adoption events or do other meet and greets until the first app with a meet and greet is completed. Like, if if you want to meet Dog A who's residing at the kennel, and he has no other apps or m&g's, you can schedule a m&g and Dog A will be there when you go to the scheduled m&g. They have a dog m&g schedule to make sure dogs with m&g's don't go home to other families... I'm sure that once in a while it does happen, but it shouldn't happen often.

Isn't it kind of weird how some organizations throw away opportunities to place their dogs? In addition to the ones that display a lack of common courtesy are the rescues that have dogs that are so special that they charge a fee to submit an application AND, if approved, they chose the dog you would be allowed to adopt. I know of more than a few like that. I recently came across one that had an application fee. It's a primary reason why I wouldn't choose a breed rescue. I understand directing a family to a dog that suites their home. We had a family interested in a treeing walker hound we had. I loved that dog, but knew he would not do well with a family with kids who wanted a play companion. They met him, and we had them meet another dog who we thought would fit better. Our hound didn't care about the kids, but the other dog was all about the kids. Played fetch with them, and you could just tell. That is responsible placement. But if I saw little mopsy on petfinder and submit an app for her, and was told that I couldn't have her but I could have fluffy, I'd tell them to stick it.

yes megan they did tell me that. the dog i applied for was adopted before i could go see her and i was the first app for her... when they told me that i said forget it.. i cant take off work to go see a dog , i wanted to bring rufus with me and a day after i filled out the app for this particular dog she was adopted to someone else.. i was done after that and i just kept looking. it took me 2 years but i knew what i wanted and i was patient enough to wait for it.. i wasnt going to be rushed into taking home just any dog, i had a set list of criteria the dog had to pass before i brought a dog home
