I really don't know jack about animal behavior. But I believe that animals tell us things that we just don't understand. How/why is it that a dog can sense a persons seizure before the person knows it's coming? How do they sense the on coming storms or earth quake? How much more do we just not know, or will ever know? I'm guessing that cat knew felt like crap, felt her owners emotions as well. Maybe they don't know it's death, but I think they are aware of the changes going on within themselves. I spend a lot of time watching my dogs, and how they behave... When I'm at the shelter, I will sit in the kennel with an impound and hold that scared dog. They tell us so much, but most of us miss it because our eyes and our minds are not open.

What a great article! I got choked up reading it, too.
And I agree Melonie, animals have TONS to tell us but we don't listen/are too closed off.
This is a great quote: “We don’t need animals to be humans,” King says. “We don’t have to make Joan into a little person. She was Joan. She was great as she was.”
