Does anyone here have experience with Addisons disease?

We're not sure yet. The vet has ruled out pretty much everything else with Princess so far. He suspects that it may be Addisons. We really don't know what to expect or even if she is going to pull through.

So sorry to hear that Princess is not doing well. Harley had the ACTH test done when we though the might have it but she didn't. Please keep us posted. Fingers crossed for you and Princess. www.addisondogs.com/addisons/

Thanks for the link. Princess had 2 days of IV (Sunday and Monday) and the vet gave her an injection. She is now drinking and has just started eating a little. She had 2 days of heavy vomiting. These are very long days...

Oh no, poor Princess. When Otis was going through lots of weird hair loss and weight loss and not wanting to eat, even fainting once, etcetera, our vet was convinced it was atypical Addison's. But we've done tons of testing over the years and everything has always been normal. We think he has some kind of hormonal/gland thing that flares up every so often. I'm so sorry that Princess is going through this. I hope she continues to improve.

I brought Princess home last Tuesday optimistic but expecting the worse. She has stayed hydrated. Vomiting has been minimal. Still not eating, barely nibbling. I have run out of money to more testing to find a solution. We have suspected the perhaps she has some sort of blockage. I talked to our vet today to see what we could work out and out of no where he got a package to do clinical testing of a new pain medication from one of the pharmaceutical company that supplies his office. He took a blood sample and urine sample today and sent it to the lab and we should have the results tomorrow. If her results are fairly clear as they have been, she will qualify for the clinical and we will be able to run the full diagnostics, surgery if necessary, and the 3 day hospital stay paid for by the pharmaceutical manufacturer. We are hoping for a blockage and not cancer. I fully expected to have buried her by now, she is a fighter...

It sounds more like a blockage. I never heard of Addison's causing vomiting. If its a blockage time is of the essence as she can die. Can they do X-rays to see if she is blocked? A full set of X-rays from chest to tail should be done to see where the blockage could be

Keeping you and Princess in my thoughts, and hoping its a blockage so the pharma company can cover the bills. My dog has to have several surgeries a year with his condition ( a blood vessel cancer that causes tumors to pop up on his underbelly) and I understand how awful it feels to not have enough fund to keep trying.
Please keep us posted.

So sorry you guys are dealing with this. Addisons can cause vomiting and major gastrointestinal issues but not sure if your vet has ruled that out. You will have a better picture when you get the blood results and urine sample but agree a full set of x-rays should be done to see if it is a blockage. As you know a blockage is critical and as ME said time is of the essence. I understand you don't have the resources to do any additional testing. Have you thought about care credit? www.carecredit.com/vetmed/?dtc=Q649&exact=care%20credit%20pets&gclid=CIaStrfxwsECFWVp7AodaE8AJwPlease keep us posted.

The vet has pretty much ruled out Addisons and Princess is now at his office to have the x-rays and will most likely be going in for surgery. Keeps your fingers crossed...

They did the surgery on Princess today. She has had a lot of trouble afterwards. The vet found long strings of carpet yarn strung from her stomach through her intestines. He had to go into the intestines through several openings to remove the yarn and he removed a section that was severely scarred. She has been very "shocky" since the surgery and stopped breathing an hour ago. They resuscitated her but the vet isn't very optimistic. He is on call tonight so he is staying with her to keep a close watch.
