Dharma had emergency surgery last night and is now home recovering. We noticed earlier in the evening that she was lethargic and "out of it." Abdominal spasms, very pale gums. Called our vet's ER line, said to bring her in. SO glad our vet does his own emergency calls. Long story short, evidence of internal bleeding and she was in surgery within the hour. Concern was cancerous mass, but good news, it was a hematoma on the spleen. Both were removed. She lost A LOT of blood. We were in surgery with her the whole time, which was rough but reassuring. This poor dog has been through too much. I'm relieved that we caught it quickly and that it was not a worse diagnosis. Yet another example of how following my gut with my dogs has saved their life.

Oh crap, how scary. I'm reading and thinking, oh no, don't be hemangio on the spleen because the symptoms sounded so similar. Thank goodness nothing that serious. Rest up little girl! And yes, def pat yourself on the back for being such a vigilant dog mom, Suzi. Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards

So sorry Suzi you guys and D deserve a break. Glad that she is home and recovering and that it was not more cancer.
You guys rock as dog owners and D is lucky to have you! No one knows our dogs better than we do and I am a huge believer in following our gut instincts with regards to our dogs.

Thanks ME, she seems to be doing ok. She's actually a lot more antsy and active than I expected her to be after only a couple days. The incision is looking good and so far the bruising doesn't look too bad. We're monitoring her breathing and heart rate as well as we can at home, since arrhythmia is a risk. I'll post biopsy results when I get them. The vet couldn't see any evidence of tumors on the spleen, but we sent it for testing to be sure.

They are so resilient! Glad to hear that she is doing well. I know you are anxious for the pathology reports. Sending you all positive vibes and hugs.

Not so good news at her checkup today... we found a new lump on her right rear leg, where she's had a cluster of mast cell growths in the past. Vet felt it was too small to aspirate, so we're keeping an eye on it for now.

So sorry to hear that Suzi. I feel your pain I know you don't have a grade on the new lump and not sure Dharma is a candidate but have you spoken to your vet about Palladia?

Had the lump rechecked today and, as expected, there were mast cells. So.... it gets removed Monday. Ugh! I forgot at the appointment today, but Monday I will talk to him about the palladia.
