I guess I've read everyone's stories long enough and should post my own lol
So a few years ago, I was still living at home with my Mom and my 2 little guys (you can see them in the photos threads), and Dustin & I were just dating. Long story short...I was contacted about a Pit Bull puppy that some guy had bought, could no longer could keep, and they were worried about what would happen to the puppy (he pretty much would have given/sold it to *anyone*). So Dustin and I talked about it, meet the puppy, and fall in love with who is now my Red and take him home!
This all happened within a matter of days, and within just a few days of us getting him...he became quite sick. Now my other 2 guys were up to date on their shots and we planned on taking Red the next week of us having him to the vet for shots and all. However when I got the call from my Mom saying that "Red is not acting like himself"...I come home to find him lethargic, not wanting food or water, and drooly...take him to the vet and its PARVO!!!! He had ate the night before and literally did a 180 in 12hrs of how he felt, so luckily he wasn't dehydrated yet when we took him to the vet and they thought we may have caught it early enough to get him well quickly....so we were given a quote for a 3-5 day stay at the vet with all appropriate meds. Well a 7 day stay and blood transfusion later, my Red finally got over it and got to come home! At this point he had stayed at the vet longer than my own house...and we won't even go into the bill that Dustin and I had to pay lol!!
I suppose what really got me into them is when we went to pick Red up from his neuter. We were in the waiting area and they called over the intercom for Red the Pit Bull being picked up. There were these 2 ladies who just gave me this look...I wanted to say "Do you have a problem?" but didn't ;D but when they brought Red out and he was so excited to see us, wiggle butt and all those ladies immediately turned those scornful looks into smiles and wanting to pet him. I guess then it really hit me the way that people perceived these dogs. All this coupled with volunteering with Mel at our local shelter really got me into looking into more into these dogs and how to help!
