I was researching upcoming events for Jax. I was very disappointed to see that prick ears were a minor fault in some events and would not be allowed in others. Why is this?

UKC definately faults prick ears.
Is Jax registered? You are looking to show him in conformation?

Prick ears are ears which stand erect without cropping. Think German Shepherd Dog, Chow Chow, French Bulldog... We have a dog listed now with prick ears, she looks like a bully Dumbo.

Jax is ckc registered. I just think he is pretty the way God made him. I guess that is a matter of opinion though. I was wanting to get him involved in showing and gatherings for his breed so he can have more social surrounding.

There's plenty you can do aside from conformation showing. And just the conformation show classes are fun. You also could apply for an AKC ILP (Infinite Listing Privilege) though I believe they renamed it PAL (Purebred Alternative Listing which makes more sense) now as an Amstaff and compete in sanctioned events such as Rally-O, agility, Obedience and other events. www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm

You can do the same thing through the UKC and register him as an APBT. The parents were registered through CKC? You wouldn't be able to show in UKC or AKC conformation anyway. And yes, Jax is beautiful just the way he is But purebred dog shows utilizes standards in judging to make sure the dogs that win (and hypothetically are subsequently bred) actually resemble their breed (which the standard describes). Prick ears have always popped up in the breed here and there, but technically they aren't 'correct' - this isn't a prick-eared breed, their ears should be half-prick (the tips fall forward) or rose eared (the ears fold neatly out to the side of the head).

Thanks to everyone for the help. I will research this and let you know how it goes. I know their are standards in all breeds that's the reason for such beautiful and awesome creatures we see. I was just a disappointed guardian of a wonderful pit and wanted everyone to see what he has to offer. I will just channel my energy on other ways to educate, one at a time if I have to, people on this wonderful breed we love so much.

I agree the dog is beautiful...... Im guessing welsh gorgi and pitbull ...LOL.... the short body and shorter legs etc...........these prick ears stand out exclusively and shows the essence of the dogs face....... really very pretty...... a winner!... I believe that all dogs are winners....... regardless of dog shows......

There is SOOOO much you can still do with him, Babs, to show the world how awesome Jax is inside and out. I think step one would be to get him reg'd as suggested above.

I'm in a house, but it's a double...hardwood floors, and the dogs like to run up and down the house. I have to make sure they don't get a wild hair up their butts past 10pm! She is seriously adorable though, I hope she gets an awesome home!!

We had a prick-eared APBT boy in class on Tuesday night. No pix, sorry, but he was a cutie.
