I wouldn't feed Eukanuba. Another cheap brand sold for way more than its worth.

Good to know thanks. I was actually looking at the rankings on one of the links posted and I was surprised to see some of the more expensive brands I was considering "upgrading" to instead of Eukenuba are actually ranked lower than it. Funny I buy organic food and all that but I never really thought about the dog food angle. Thanks for the info!

I read at some point in my life that too much protein and meat in a dogs diet is bad for their renal system and can cause a lot of health problems. It also said that grain based foods were actually good for dogs as long as they contained balanced nutrition etc. Here is an article about protein that you may be interested in. www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=protein_mythAlso, the site in general is great. www.dogfoodproject.com

Okay due to me not liking Petsmart's attitude as of late, I've had to switch to PetCo, where Stelly Belly was fussed over very thoroughly =), but they do not carry her food! I was recommended a comparable Solid Gold high activity food. Anyone have any thoughts on Solid Gold??

Eukanuba is actually from the IAMS company, and they use the same poor quality ingredients mentioned above (by products instead of real whole meat such as deboned chicken, corn and cheap fillers). Seriously, just check out the ingredients. You want real meat, and the first ingredient should be some sort of meat, and the words "by-product" or "corn" should be NO WHERE on that list (and I'm sure the other members can add to this list!!)

I feed Solid Gold sometimes. Seems like a good food. But honestly, I would check out smaller local stores. I get much better prices at my local pet feed store than the chains offer. (Other than Pet Supplies Plus. If you have one of those near you, they offer all the holistic foods and their prices are good too.)

I've fed Solid Gold off and on for a while. Never had a problem with it. Right now I use Natural Balance vegetarian formula, plus Wellness canned meats, and sometimes Wysong canned rabbit. I'm really happy with the Natural Balance as the base, and I add the meats + various raw fruits/veggies on the side. I shop at Pet Valu. They have a decent selection of foods (seems to get better all the time), and I like that they do not sell live animals.

My dog devours the stuff like it's crack flavored ice cream, so it certainly must taste better than what I was giving her. Her energy level seems the same, and I've noticed a big drop in the amount of stool per day. Again this is a comparison vs kibbles n bits so I guess it's not hard for the Solid Gold to look good, but my dog certainly seems to love it. Oh and the manager of PetCo gave us a free bag of solid gold treats just to see if our pit liked them. She seems to eat just about anything so it wasn't necessary, but free is always a nice price.

If you are using Solid Gold, I recommend that you use their Sea Meal supplement, especially the Hund en Flocken. Glad you switched, SG is a much better food for your doggy ;D

P.s. Windowdog...your avatar is ADORABLE! Is that your dog? Sadly, no. There is some guy down south who is an old school armorer. He makes full suits of armor for renaissance fair types and collectors of that kind of thing. He has a pit bull and I guess he made it a suit of armor as a joke. Now you can actually buy your own dog armor, though you need to get your dog to the armory for measurements. Ah! Just found the link here www.pitbullarmory.com/dog-armor.htmlPersonally I think some my neighbors are wary enough of my pitt without it trotting around in a fully suit of platemail.
