I'm biting the bullet and sending my boss a proposal to allow me to bring Inara to the prison with me. I'm not holding my breath, but man, that would be awesome! So keep your fingers crossed!!!

My boss is okay with it, but now I need to approach it with the Warden. My boss said he'll be surprised if I'm allowed, just for liability issues if she bites an inmate, or liability issues if an inmate hurts her. But I'm waiting to hear back from the Warden about when I can come talk to him.

Maybe the warden would be more open to it if you brought her as a therapy dog for the prison? Just a thought.

I was thinking same thing as Suzi, but then I remembered not acceptable taking the dogs to do therapy during your professional work in TDI anyway. You can not do therapy during your paid professional job like being a nurse so I expect while at prison same. It would have to be volunteer time the insurance is volunteer insurance. But if done as volunteer during non work hours should be fine insurance wise.

My homeowners liability insurance covers her even at the prison, so if she bites somebody (not bloody likely as I'm not letting inmates touch her) she's covered. I'm just not sure what to do about appeasing the prison that I won't sue them if an inmate hurts her. Obviously if I thought she would be in danger I wouldn't be taking her - my housing unit is pretty darned quiet. But I know it's still a concern the Warden will probably have. Wonder if a waiver of liability would help appease him? I have an appointment with him Monday afternoon. I need to get some research done this weekend so I can go in prepared with a professional proposal, not just "I wanna bring my puppy to work!" lol

Awe I just looked up farmers. They don't cover us in NY. Someone in my community told me that she got charged extra grand a year for her German Shepherd. I have never told my insurance I have a dog.

I wish I could take Andrew to school with me. LOL
Secondly I wish that Farmer's and Nationwide homeowners insurance down here didn't cost an extra $200+ per year... because my insurance company doesn't know about Andrew and when I tried doing it the honest way they weren't happy about the "idea". Oopsies!

The Warden said he would think about it, which is more than he's apparently done in the past. I guess a lot of people have asked, but I went in with typed, bulleted lists for him outlining the benefits of dogs in the workplace, why I'm asking, what I would need to bring, what my daily routine would be, etc. So he's "mulling it over." At least he didn't say no yet! Still not too hopeful, but we'll see. :-)

He emailed me this morning and said no, due to liability issues. I'm not surprised, but I'm really bummed.
