This morning will be the last one I will ever spend on earth with the best little buddy I've ever had. He got up during the night only to collapse. I got a tiny bit of food and fluid into him. I was able to get him up a bit and he went over to his favorite bowl for some water. But he can't stand for more than a little while. This is the end for the boy who used to walk and run or swim for miles per day. But even as he lay on the floor unable to get up, his little whip tail was wagging happily as I spoke to him. I've lost many, many very, VERY special little pals over the years and I dearly miss them all. But given the extra special bond between me and my boy, this may be the hardest yet, even though I've known it was coming for quite some time and am frankly amazed he made it this long with his laryngeal paralysis at such an advanced age.

John, I'm so very sorry. You're making the most difficult decision ever, but you are also making the most loving decision ever. Helping ease his passing is the best way you can tell him how much you love him.
I hope you are able to spoil him rotten with some of his favorite things before you help him pass over. I'll be thinking about you two.

I dont know what to say but I will be thinking of you. I have not had to go through this yet as Rocky is my first dog other than dogs that I had when I was very young. I understand that bond and I really feel for you.

Thanks again to all who responded. As expected, losing Pablo was especially hard. But he was such a great dog who led such a great life with such zest that I already am mostly thinking about how I wish all dogs could live as long and as happily as he did. I love my boy and am so, so proud of him and so, so happy to have shared almost 13 years with such a great little guy.
