I met Pablo way back in the late 90s, during my second stint as a volunteer at the Animal Orphanage in Voorhees, NJ. Before I met Pablo, as those who knew me back when may remember, my two favorites were a big, mostly white Pit Bull named Ariel, who I called Ariel the Magnificent because of her super ball drive and high trainability, and a beautiful mostly black (actually "seal", ie red over black), super well tempered Pit Bull named Onyx. I never actually said it, or even thought about it, at the time, but once I met these two, my dream dog certainly SHOULD have been a Pit Bull that combined Ariel's athleticism and intelligence with Onyx's beauty and superb temperament, ie friendly, but not an in your face goof, but in a sweetly, well mannered way. Well, I'm actually somewhat embarrassed to say that I never really thought about it, but that is EXACTLY what Pablo was. No wonder we got on so great! I was always so proud of Pablo in every way imaginable and still am and always will be!
Not at all surprisingly, but very gratifyingly, these same qualities made Pablo very popular and a great breed ambassador. My vet and her son told me straight up that he was always their favorite amongst the many, many pack dogs and fosters and other rescue cases they met through us. My wife's colleague and friend, a very reserved, very "suburban" professor who is about as far from the prototypical Pit Bull person you can get always said he was her favorite. When my sister-in-law wanted to cheer me up during a particularly rough patch, she sent me a photo she took during the last visit she made to me and Judy when Judy and I were still together - a great shot of good old Pablo scrunched onto a chair that has held pride of place on my desk ever since I got it.
Proud of you, Pablo. Such a, such a, SUCH a good boy forever!!!!
