So after looking around at a couple of local vets we finally took Maxine to a new animal hospital that was much closer to home. The vets that run it were also recommended and the priceing was a little cheaper then some of the others.
Maxine needed her lyme vac and a renewal of heartworm medication. The vet was fine, got right down on the floor with Maxine and checked her over. She did'nt mind the doggy kisses and got the shots/bloodwork done and over with.
The whole visit was great with the exception of one persistant vet tech that kept trying to push a prong collar on us for Maxine's pulling. We told her no once...She tried again. Told her no twice, she still asked again! After the third time even one of the vets told her that we obviously were'nt interested and to leave us alone.
Maxine got the last laugh, the same vet tech offered Maxine a treat from a little jar on the counter. Maxine sniffed it, took it in her mouth, and then spit it back on the tech's shoe.

Ha! You show 'em, Maxine!
Why don't you switch to injectable Ivomec 1% given orally at .1cc/10lbs? I buy a 50ml bottle for about $35 at my feed store, and if I just used it on the dogs alone, it would still last me years.
For Maxine, she's about 40lbs? That'd be .4cc a month, so well over 100 months of treatment for only $35.
It's the same active ingredient as in Heartgard, and it's easy to administer on a piece of peanut butter toast or wrapped up in some bologna. It also treats demodectic mange, if she ever gets that.

Maxine had to go in for another Heartworm test anyway so we figured we would just stay with the Heartgard she was on.
I'll have to check out this Ivermec. We used a product called Ivergard on Autum, but even that was still through the vet's office.
Have you ever had any side effects from using it since its suppose to be for cattle and swine?

Never. It's also used on humans in third world countries. I use it on all the livestock- goats, llama, alpaca, etc.
It's the exact same active ingredient as Heartgard. It's just that for dogs, there's a 1,000% markup, where as for livestock, not so much. It's just a way for vets to get more of your money.
Go on Jeffers and see. It'll say, "Those who bought Ivomec also bought....dog toy, dog bowl, dog collar, etc." I think nowadays more people buy it for dogs than livestock.
