Lola is my mellow dog. She never really gets excited by everyday things. She doesn't smile. She doesn't frolic. She's good around people, but because of her freezing thing when people pet her, she can make them a little uncomfortable. She's different than any dog I know, or have known.
Well tonight, she was feeling her oats and was running around with Rocky in the yard a little. I had to pull some grass out of her butt (don't ask), and for some reason that set her off. I ran around the yard with her and Rocky, then we went inside.
I decided to weigh her since she's losing weight (I downsize her after the cold weather) and as I put her down she starts jumping around the kitchen all full of herself, Rocky runs up to her and SHE NAILS HIM!!!
Not a play thing, either. She meant it. Thankfully Rocky did not return the sentiment, he respects her. But WTF?
Just when you think you know your dog, you don't. Five minutes later they are lying cheek-to-cheek on the bed. Go figure.

hellooooo dave..... you almost let rocky see her weight... females NEVER let males see their weight...... thats why she nailed him, she didnt want him seeing how much she weighs silly.....
and i found with cheyanne to keep weight on her i gave her canned food with her kibble and it actually worked.. i know you feed raw, so maybe more chicken skin for the fat content to add a few lbs to her? or maybe some satin balls?

Too funny ME! I didn't think of that.
I'm taking weight off her now. Since she has no fur thanks to her thyroid, I put fat on her for the cold weather. Maybe she's feeling spunky because she's skinny again!

Just trying to learn more about multi-dog households. I am the one that is almost constantly on edge about them whenever they're together.

What do you mean by "She nails him" and how could you tell the diff btwn that and "she meant it". Just trying to learn more about multi-dog households. I am the one that is almost constantly on edge about them whenever they're together. You should be on guard for now, until you know for sure what triggers them. He's still young enough to respect her, as he ages that can change, though in my experience males generally respect females. This is only the third time in five years Lola has had an issue with Rocky. Two times it was over food. This time she was wound up, Rocky wanted to play, and Lola went over the top. I could tell right away it wasn't play for her by the way she rose up and went for his face. Rocky ducked and she got his neck. When Lola exhibits play behavior she ALWAYS has given a play bow. Her play is also almost always "chase me." She never pushes forward in play. FFW to 0:40 You need to be in tune and very observant to distinguish between rough play and a fight. Your dogs may be very different in their behavior compared to mine. In play there's usually give-and-take on both parts. A fight is just give.
