lilisnotes.com/pitbulls-dnaquote To reiterate an earlier point, I do not feel that a specific DNA sequence determines whether or not a dog is a pit bull. The sole determiner for pit bull identification is the job that a dog performs. If a dog is toted around in a Gucci purse and wears designer doggy attire, then it isn’t a pit bull. If a dog spends his days watching television on the couch with his master and enjoys the occasional dropped potato chip, then that dog is not a pit bull. If the dog is trained to be animal-aggressive and participates in organized dog fights once a month, then that dog is a pit bull. this is right up there with "as few as 6 genes determine head shape" for sheer stupidity

So my initial read was like WTF.... then it all made sense that the author wrote this because a pit bull is anything anyone says it is and after all there is no such breed as a pit bull anyways. Amazing how far this agenda and mentality has progressed...sigh.

I wrote this. It is "awaiting moderation".
"This is an astonishingly and dangerously ignorant point of view. First of all, the fact that someone engages in the silly pass time of dressing up their dog does not mean that the dog is not potentially animal aggressive, REGARDLESS of breed. Indeed, I’m sure you could take dogs right off the yards of dog fighters and dress them up or carry them in gucci bags and for sure they’d be happy to swipe fallen potato chips in your living room. You want to judge dogs based on what their owners do. Some of the nicest dogs I’ve known came from abuse situations and some of the nastiest from homes where they were pampered and allowed to use aggression displays or actual bites to get their petulent way. Please rethink this."

I'm going to start a FaceBook campaign to make sure everyone knows that there is no such thing as a "Labrador" "Retriever" and that we should correctly call any dog that looks like one, or smells like one, or has been in the same room as one, a "lab" type dog. Because unless the "lab" actually earns a living by retrieving ducks for hunters, it cannot be called a "Labrador" "Retriever" in any way.

The person actually printed my reply. I sent in another one. At least this guy is interested in open discussion.

wow! What's that they say about good intentions! At least with the haters you know where the harm is coming from but I am beginning to think a lot more harm can be done by well intentioned, misinformed people who are on the same team.

Right on Perseus. The haters are so much more straightforward- pit bulls are evil, dangerous etc. The well meaning are often so ill-informed and the "logic" is so convoluted.

I suggested the "border collie' should be changed to "sporting collie" to reflect its real work

This is becoming more and more apparent in Pit Bull advocacy. It has been painfully clear to me in rescue, and I mean all breed/all mutt rescue, for many, many years. Some of the biggest disasters are caused by people absolutely dripping with sincere good intent, but in WAY over their heads and unwilling or unable to learn.

hmmmm.. who is "Seriously"? hmmmmmm.... I wonder... Notice how I gave up? I'm crazy tired tonight and just didn't feel like going any further. For whatever reason, I don't like putting my name on blogs. It's literally every where else on the internet, but it weirds me out to have it on blogs...

Did you see how angry he got when I very politely (or at least my best attempt at being polite) corrected his use of the term "Staffordshire Terrier" when he meant "Staffordshire Bull Terrier" on the FB thread? Apparently, correcting one's mistakes is doubleplusuncool these days, as well.
