Ok, this is starting to get out of hand.
Chubby picked up the habit when he is at my mom's house that if he needed to go outside he would walk to the front door and bark (its a house with an upstairs and a finished basement so my folks could be anywhere). They would go to the front door and let him out to pee. Well, suddenly it becomes "Bark bark", they open the door and he sometimes does absolutely nothing. A few times he just looked outside and walked back to his chewies. His typical wakeup time has been around 6:30am (I used ot have to shuffle him about at 6am to get him to wake up, lol). Well, in the last few months when he stays with my folks at their house (I drop him off there when I am away), he gets up at barks to go outside at 6am...5:45...5:20...5am...4:45...and so on! Last time he stayed for a long weekend he woke my mother up at 4am both days!! There was one time that my mom and dad went out and came home around 3am. They decide to take the dog outside (hoping he would let them sleep just a little later). Nope, barking again at 5:15 to go back outside. Mind you, no accidents when he is left home alone, so he does have the ability to hold it in (also doesn't drink very much during the day).
Now he's staring to pull this at the apartment, where once the sun starts to peek through its suddenly "Time to Pee! Time to eat!! Get up silly humans!!!" Once he walks and then eats...the bastard is off to bed. ARG.
There is nothing wrong with him physically, is there anything I can do to curb this rude wakeup behavior?

Chubbs is just trying to be a good alarm clock... too bad he doesn't have a snooze button! ;D
Well, you're probably not going to like this idea LOL! Ignore the barking. I know it means that it will still wake you up and you probably won't be able to sleep while he is barking, but hopefully he'll get the message after a couple nights of being ignored until it is actually time to go out. And tell your parents to do the same. He doesn't go out until it's time to wake up and go out.

Yes agree with Suzi....ignore the Chubster. I have a co-worker that potty trained her dogs using those bells you hang from the door......the dogs ring the bells constantly to go out....not because they have to go out but because they can and want to....sounds like Chubs

Cleveland started this sort of thing after Ellie left, now Winston is in on it. They don't bark, but they annoy me by licking me, sticking their nose in my ear, laying on me, or a subtle whine, jumping in and out of bed... etc. when I ignore them. The only thing that comes close to an extra hour of sleep is feeding them a cup of food before bed. When I got home the other morning at 3:30 am, they were let outside, fed, etc. Both of them were up and ready to go at 7am.
I liked it when they would let me sleep until 11am if I wanted. They got up when I got up and not before.

lol !! Sonds like Chubbs has you and your parents well trained. I agree. Let him bark and ignore him. He'll get the message.
Toma started doing this very same thing after Beau passed. My dogs were trained to shake their collars at the back door when they needed out. The first few times Toma shook her collar and I didn't pay attention , she came up to me in bed and shook her collar loud an clear. lol ! I told her "no, go to your bed.' She stood there a few seconds , then went to her bed. She stopped waking me up after she realized it wasn't working.
Good luck !

I fully agree with the ignoring part...but living in an apartment building with thin walls means they can hear him when he gets 'talkative' with me. He also paces and paces and his nails clicking on the hardwood (yes, we bought a large blanket to put on the floor and he purposely walks around it) is driving my neighbors and Jason a little nuts. I've clipped his nails as short as I can (he has those clear nails where you can see the vein). And as for my parents, they just don't do well ignoring a barking dog. I've been begging them to ignore him. I've told them that if he went out at his normal times and did his business then he can certainly hold it overnight!! Exceptions are made obviously if I know he is sick in his tummy.
Little rotten stinker.

Ooooh , living in an apartment building does make a huge difference.Sorry , I missed that fact when I read your post. I apologize.
Is he getting exhaustive exercise ? Perhaps an hour or two before bed time he can be walked to get any pent up energy out that is still present.
I don't know what schedule you have him on , if any..however, I know when I had a similar problem with my two. I would take them out a few hours before bed time for a long walk. If there was rain , I would bring out the Flirt Pole...and those short minutes exhausted mine. However I live in a house which makes it easier. Just a suggestion.

Did Chubs call Cappy and tell him to start doing this, too?
Lately Cappy's been getting out of bed and whining to go out at all hours of the night. I will get up once to let him out, usually about 2am, and that's it. I figure he can hold it from 2-6. I keep having to say, "Cappy, get your butt back in bed!" and he listens, for about an hour. Then again he jumps down, lies by the door, and whines.
If he wasn't such an escape artist, I'd let the door open and he could go out when he pleased. Darn dog..

Chubby is slowly getting more responsive about listening when I say "Go to bed!". I know he isn't sick, and I know he can hold it...I think he just likes being a stinker.
ps: Chubby *may* have texted Cappy...I do have my suspicions

Glad to hear that Chubby is getting more responsive.
I would also suggest any and all contact between Cappy and Chubby be closely monitored. The two together would be quite the combo.

Both Jackie and Enzo play the wake up game...but they only play it for Mommy. So during the week when Dana gets up at 430 for work, she can get ready and leave, and when i wake up at 6AM, they're still sleeping or waiting to go out.
But if Dana is of or it it is the weekend, they wake up at 530ish, start playing, making noise and want to eat.
