Has anybody experienced this behavior with their Pits? My wife says it's called trancing. We started noticing Crooks doing this shortly after we pulled him off the streets. We have watched him do it for up to 45 minutes at a time. Looked it up on the inet and it supposed to be a behavior only observable in English Bull Terriers. He had been doing this for awhile before we got the camera - you can see the big string of drool hanging from his mouth; he really gets into it.

What happens if you try to distract him from doing this behavior? Is he responsive?
I'd be worried about a neurological issue, here.

He only does it when he has some bushes that he can walk under. Some info out there implies that it invokes their hunting/stalking instinct. It's just so interesting that walking under bushes will make him literally go in to slow motion mode.

I've never seen that kind of behavior before, I honestly thought at first that the vid was playing in slow motion.
He looks like he is very very VERY carefully placing one paw down at a time.

I've seen Lola do this once. It scared me a little, I thought maybe she was pre-siezuring (is that even a phrase?) She's never done it since. It does look like a neurological thing. Even though the website referenced by perseus states the behavior doesn't appear to be dangerous, I'd hesitate to approach a dog demonstrating the behavior. Kind of like the old adage "Let sleeping dogs lie."
Search "trancing" on youtube and there are quite a few videos of dogs doing it, and not just bull and terriers.
adding... I just looked at the video again. It looks like Crooks is doing it on purpose. He must be enjoying it.

I worried at first it was a seizure, but I will have to read more about this. I've never heard of "trancing" before.

I was thinking seizures, too. That is so strange! I've never seen anything like that before!
