Luca came home on Tues night and he's slowly but surely picking up. I swear, though, I can't remember the last time I've slept less. I am ultra-paranoid about monitoring him, and since he's used to hopping off and on furniture all day long, I have to be really careful he's not doing this (jumping = big no-no).
The incision is scary. From the sternum to his privates, and lots of staples. The redness and bruising has really diminished in the past 24 hours, though. He threw up a tiny bit this morning which has me freaked. Waiting for a doctor to call me back. I'm tellin ya, if I had my way, I'd ban corn cobs!!! UGH!!! (My friend's Pit Bull actually underwent the same surgery a few years ago for the same exact obstruction!)
I'll post some pix later.

Ouch! That poor baby.
I hope he's doing better today.
More positive thoughts for a fast recovery your way.
P.S. Gino ate a mango pit. The BIG ones. He chewed it apparently and threw up some of it and passed the rest. I've heard it's almost impossible but he did it. He could eat a house I'm sure.

Yikes poor Lucas... get well fast and heal nicely....My Yogi swallowed a whole plastic bottle of allopurinol that I dropped on the ground unawares, He ate 52 pills; that was 2 and a half years ago, nothing bad happened .... and go figure , he did not eat the bottle.......imagine pitties learning how to open the fridge.... pittie moms and pops will starve ....LOL

It's crazy what these guys will/can eat and NOT get sick. Wow, Gino, wtf dude! LOL And lucky Yogi, too. So glad they both ended up ok.
This is the 3rd time Luca has eaten something life-threatening. He ate a bag of horse grain years ago, and a year or so after that almost a whole chocolate cake. I swear I DO watch him like a mama hen, but he's so sneaky sometimes!!!!
Dumb dog will be the death of me *sigh*

I know what you mean. Our rescue Sophie (you can see her on our available dogs page under "adopted". Poor thing had no hair and looked like an elephant when we got her.
She would get into EVERYTHING ALL the time. Like you I watch my dogs like a hawk cuz I'm a freak about stuff. But this girl would find things I never even know we had.
Good dog people, bad housekeepers?

Looks like Roscoe after his emergency dental (without the blood leaking from his nostril) and Aiden after his ruptured disc (without the neck brace). I hope he heals as well as they did, but I'm sure it won't take months like poor Aiden.

PS - I've seen emergency spays with incisions that large (pyometria, late term spay/abort) that healed well, so I think he'll be fine.

Bonnie, my foxhound, ate half of a plastic spatula this week. I cooked a steak sandwich, and one of the cats got into the pan and knocked the spatula on the floor. So far she has passed it with no issue. Roscoe the pit bull and Aiden the pit/shar pei are actually much better in this department than she is!

Funny , Yogi will eat anything that he thinks is not mine, he is so obedient, go figure, I have roast chicken with all the works and the aroma to die for, comes the plate , I leave it on my coffee table, Yogi just sits there staring at the dish while I go answer the phone ,talking for 5 minutes; Im back to dinner and eureka! all the food is still there...lol what a good boy he is! See all one needs to do is train your pitty and he becomes a great household member..... there are way too many pitty's in the shelters needing homes and one of the reasons is lack of training as pitbulls are highly maintained dogs, If only people would study the needs of our wonderfull breed then there would be less of a problem at the shelters.

omg he looks so sad. vitamin E oil rubbed on the scar once it gets better will make the scar fade away quicker.
rufus has eaten a ton of stuff, but never had to have surgery thankfully.
how is luca doing today?

Thanks for reminding me about the vit e, will def do that, cuz that scar is going to be massive. He's doing pretty good, healing up nicely and putting the weight back on. His coat is back to its normal shininess. He'll go to have the staples removed later this week. Can't wait!
