They are coming more often now. Last night at 11:30 I took her outside and placed her on the porch. I had to pick her up inside to get her out, she was trembling and avoiding me, knowing what I was about to do. As soon as her feet hit the ground she took off running full blast into the back yard. She ran around crashing into stuff, did her business and started exploring the yard. Then out of nowhere she blasted past me to the front yard, with me in hot pursuit. I get to the front, and she's nowhere. I f*kin panicked. Turns out she ran around to the side of the house. It's a dark little corridor of about four to five feet wide between the house and my neighbors hedge. She was all the way back by my fence, but she could easily cut through the hedge if she wanted. She was just sniffing around. So I'm calling her with absolutely no results. Then she does it again... blasts right past me to go to the back. Runs around, runs right by me, to the other side again. And then one more cycle. I'm in my jammies with bare feet and can't keep up so I just stand by the corner waiting. And waiting. Now I'm fed up. She finally comes back to the porch. So I'm thinking I really gotta stick to the leash rule. For the first time since April 2011, I'm actually scared of her running away. It almost sucked, her acting normal.

Glad she's loving the outdoors! Hopefully you can figure out a way to keep her in her own outdoors! Honestly, I wouldn't allow the free running if I wasn't sure she would stay close. She's so terrified of the street and the kids and really, really hates the thought of leaving the little safe zone around the house and back yard. The only reason she even knows she can run to the side of the house is because I had to use it as a potty area when I treated the back yard for weeds a couple months ago. I do have to work on recall, though. I just want to give her the most opportunity to enjoy herself. It only happens late at night, in the dark and noiseless times. Which sure isn't often.
