I didn't say it, but when I said I'd look again, I did plan on physically visiting one.

Yeah, that was actually the one breed in the mix I'm no a huge fan of. I don't hate them, just not something I'd seek out... also the fact that they like to herd things by nipping at heels, but I've had a Kelpie before and they're not too different, so I know how to deal with some of their behaviors.
I also have a lot of space for a dog, although I do plan on hiking and possibly jogging with me being the primary source of exercise... maybe a flirt pole once it is trained enough for that. With my exercise plan for me (which will involve my dog unless it's a couch potato) I'll probably do a jog in the morning, then allow for a little supervised free running for dog and then go for a pretty long hike sometime in the afternoon... possibly another free running session or flirt pole in the evening. I'm also hoping to keep whatever dog I end up with busy enough with training and jobs that they'll be happy.
I've already been looking into group training classes, too... and hopefully eventually joining the agility team, learning tracking, or therapy dog type stuff... depending on the dog I get, and what they're more suited to... maybe all of the above.

Oh, also I have a few puppy training books... Has anyone read these books? Should I get the puppy, would it be best to throw out or ignore any of these books, or are they okay?

Nice, thank you... I found the website and will be checking out the videos when I get a chance.
If anyone is interested in knowing, I decided to get the puppy... I did walk through two local shelters first .
The collie/doberman mix is still for adoption and I still wish I could get her, but I still couldn't take her with a good conscience... fortunately she isn't having to stay at the shelter, but is in a foster home. If anyone here lives near Dallas (she's in Euless), wants a new dog, happens to be a female and also hates men, you might want to check her out...

I'll be picking her up next Friday... She's a girl, and I will probably call her Kai, but I won't know for sure until I've had her for a day or two... but either way, I will give plenty of pictures! She's brown and black. She seems pretty calm (and quiet!) compared to some of her littermates... not one of the run to the front and jump up to see people type puppies, and not one of the hide in the back corner types...
