Has anyone heard of this school? I finally "liked" enough things on facebook to get ads, and well... it picked right up on what I'd actually click. So... I'd love to learn how to be a trainer or a veterinary assistant, but I'm not so sure about whether this school is for real or not.
Has anyone heard of it at all? Anything positive or negative you may know about it? Is it a bad idea?
I'm half way through school doing something else, but I could do them at the same time, since the first part of this is from home and what I'm already doing is, too... but then there's the question of which program I'd choose...
I just thought I'd ask about it in the dog community since they apparently train dog trainers, and maybe you all had heard of or had an encounter with this school... any information would be great!

It is for real. I have heard good things about it but heres the thing..... The biggest thing that sells in dog training is word of mouth. No matter how many schools you go to, word of mouth is what sells. You may look in your area and find out how many trainers there are in your area. Research them, find one you like and ask to intern with them. Most trainers will do it but they usually ask that you do not start your buisness within 50 miles of them. Ive also thought about doing this years ago but changed my mind....... My biggest fear is paying for this schooling, them teaching me things I already know then me being no closer to a career in dog training then I already am. Ive now teamed up with a couple trainers/breeders in my area and they are teaching me how to train certain things. Once I am trained, they are going to help me train their dogs. Thru them I am going to build up my name and reputation in the dog world. I dont know if it will get me where I am hoping but it is not putting me out anything but time, and I have plenty of time! Good luck!

Oh wow, thank you for the information!
I kind of live between towns, so I was thinking I could start something out in the small town without any sort of dog training yet, but I hadn't really thought about it too much yet.
I really like All Breed Rescue and Training (which is in the other town near me...) so maybe I could ask them... I'm already taking my puppy to classes there, so maybe... I guess it wouldn't be 50 miles away, though. I'll just have to look into it more.

Well, you could always just ask them and see what they say. They might not have any conditions at all. Keep us posted!

ABC is ok in terms of dog training schools. I've worked with (through another trainer) some of their students, and to be honest, I wasn't THAT impressed. The students that come out of the school are only going to be as good as the mentor trainers that the students are hooked up with. It's a hit or miss thing, IMO. You could do worse, for sure. But it wouldn't be my first choice. Here is some information you may find helpful if you are interested in becoming a trainer (I can't help wrt vet tech schooling except to say, if that is an avenue you'd like to pursue, just go to an actual college for a two/four year degree): therealpitbullblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/so-you-wanna-be-dog-trainer.html

Thank you for the article! I'm not really sure if I want to be a trainer or not yet. It sounds so much better than almost anything else I can think of, but at the same time, I don't know if I have any sort of passion for it when it comes to other people's dogs. I have a lot of fun training MY dog, but I don't know. It's not like I have a passion for anything else I could do, either, and at least this way half of the people I'd work with would actually be dogs and that sounds nice.
I'll probably start watching some videos, and take several classes with Kai and maybe see if I can volunteer with them and/or see if I can sit in on other classes, and then go from there. I want the knowlege I might gain from the whole thing, but we'll see if it's actually what I want to do.

You can always persue it from the hobby angle, then just take it from there....that's what I did. I couldn't get enough in terms of training and behavior education, I loved it. I started taking a client here or there, and it just turned into something more. The only reason I closed my business, was because I couldn't work fulltime, run a part time business, AND run RPB.
