Matilda is still a puppy, so we are just working on basic commands and puppy manners right now, but my other dog is a small dog.
He was a rescue and his previous owner had been keeping him in a cat carrier he could barely stand up in, so he had a lot of anxiety. I called my ballet teacher because her dogs do agility training and she had recommended this local guy that everyone goes to. The guy told me to get a prong collar for my small dog and give him hot dogs as a reward. When George was done with the hot dogs, he was done with class for the night and one night, he decided he just wanted to go home, so the guy comes over to me and takes my leash and starts yanking up really hard and yelling sit at my dog, who doesn't want to do any of it.
I wound up not going back and contacted my vet, who recommended this behaviorist in my area for the separation anxiety. The husband was a veterinary behaviorist and his wife was a Karen Pryor training. They came up with a training program for George with a clicker and treats and within a few months, the separation anxiety had gotten MUCH better

Thank you all for your advice, I really appreciate it. Now I have to get to work!
I know that dog aggression and people aggression are different, but ignorante people don't know and don't care. They just see a pit bull and think "that dog is going to rip me to shreds".
Don't people realize that they have a better temperment than labs?! Guess not! And that they were a loved dog back in the 50's, 60's. UGH...
You all have made me laugh and again thank you. I have your blog up, you blogwhore and will be reading it here shortly.

I found a trainer named Karen May, CPDT-KA, KPA CTP, a Karen Pryor Academy Certified training partner. I am going to give her a jingle. I am glad I could make you laugh. You have a wonderful evening.
