I hope everything is sorted out. No dog in this condition, regardless of breed, should be spending much time outside, and especially not 24/7!

I also sent an email to one of our wonderful vet techs with pictures of Mike, to give them an idea of what we'll be bringing in. She showed the pictures to one of the vets who believes his condition may be a result of chemical burns. They want us to get him comfy and stable before making his appointment, but we'll definately keep you all updated on how he's doing and what's going on.

Okay well small change in plans. We're getting him in on Monday. The foster home had family come into town and they are staying in Mr. Mike's "room." lol SO! She's going to go out and pick him up Monday afternoon and meet me at the vet to get him all squared away and checked out. I did snag some new pics though and he is looking GREAT! I'm pretty confident that he's going to be a "red dog" but that's just me lol! This is the thing the bandage was covering... He's so well mannered and shows tremendous restraint from jumping up. We've heard a few other comments that indicate it might have been a chemical burn that caused the hair loss. One good point that she brought up is that he might have gotten mange and someone dipped him into something instead of treating him with conventional methods. We'll never really know. He's on his way to a better life now though!

At least it isn't sarcoptic, although I guess in some cases that is easier to treat. So contagious, though!

At least it isn't sarcoptic, although I guess in some cases that is easier to treat. So contagious, though! I've dealt with Sarcoptic before so it totally doesn't scare me. Demo, I haven't and I've just heard too many stories about how big of a pain it can be to treat. But, either way, it's treatable and its up from here!

Demo is a PAAAAAAAAAINNNNN in the ass. BUT, as you said, it's treatable - THAT is what matters.

to treat demodex:
oral ivermectin, salmon oil, goodwinol shampoo, neem oil(rub on skin to kill the mites), royal jelly, high quality food or raw, organic kelp.. it will take a few months, but he can recover from demodex..

Ready for an update??? Begin Drum Roll! . .. ... .... ..... And yes, his foster momma has porked him up just a little TOO much so she got to hear the third degree from the vet tech today about his weight - Almost 77lbs! He should be closer to about 65lbs. So, he's not skinny anymore! And that coat! So chocolate! Obviously, he's still suffering from demodex but I passed along some Nu-Stock to her to see how it does for him. Cross your fingers!

I know Mary... and so many people just wouldn't believe that this dog is THIS dog unless they could see the pics side by side, and even then they may not believe... And what's more heartbreaking is that there are people out there who don't think it's worth it to even TRY. But just LOOK at him! How can we NOT try???
