Cool! Nice rendering of the apbt imo - really captured that gamebred look. Curious about the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog (say that 3 times real fast). Thanks for posting Mary

I thought the artwork was very nice and the breeds were well portrayed.
Trying to bite my tongue......eeeek....I just really dislike the term "bully breeds".

haha-yeah I know. Went to the Alapaha association website and the those dogs look a little differnt to me than the drawing - little thicker. Beautiful though - some have some really cool markings.

I LOVE ABB's and they have taken over as my fave working bulldog (outside of the APBT/AST) over American Bulldogs which I just find to be too messy a breed not properly "policed". I'm actually on the ABBA website right now. It's really awesome that they list "bad breeders" known to have violated their code of ethics. Not many breed clubs (none I can think of off hand) do that. Bulldogs in general are just - my loves. Pretty much every single bull breed ever invented could find a spot in my home

Yeah I saw that to and think that does show some backbone on their part. I am w you on the bulldog thing - you either get it or you don't but if you do they absolutely have your heart.

I met an ABB at my work. She was intense, wanted to eat Saxon (and probably could have, she was like 4 times his size!). She was gorgeous, though, and very soft with their children. I've always liked the above poster, it's a beautiful piece of artwork and I think it really shows the size differences well. I also appreciate that it includes Bostons in the list. I've moved away from the term Bully Breed, though, and either use Bull Breed or "Pit Bulls and Related Breeds."

Yay Cat! Those are the terms we (RPB) use/prefer. I'm not sure who came up with the term "bully" breeds - I don't remember it being very prevalent at all when I started with Pit Bulls. It's something we are desensitized to and associate with our lovely mushy dogs, but what about the average person? Bully means something very specific and our dogs have a bad reputation - I just think someone's cutesy term of endearment turned into the widely used term of today. And I still cannot believe the American Bully people actually NAMED their "breed" that.

P.S. Do you consider any of the dogs in the top row to be Bull Breeds? When I use the term I use it to mean "Bull and Terrier," so I wouldn't consider American Bulldogs or Boxers to be Bull Breeds. I also wouldn't necessarily consider AmBullys to be Bull Breeds, either.

When I say "bull breeds" I'm referring to any dogs with bulldog ancestry.

Good to know! I know most people use "bully breed" to mean any dog with a smooshy face. I've seen anything from Mastiffs to Pugs get called "Bully Breeds."

^ I've seen that too. Mastiffs aren't a bull breed, neither are Pugs!
But like, I wouldn't know what to call breeds like Bulldogs or American Bulldogs other than "bull breeds".

I actually know the owner of the dog used in the Alapaha picture. His pic is always used as the example in pictures, LOL.
I really like how they differentiate between the APBT and the AmStaff on that. It would be a cool poster to have framed.

A quick recap. Our last rescue didn't work out. We ended up with a 12 yr old lab, named Gracie..anyway we are again looking for a APBT to adopt. Finding an APBT other than a "bully" type dog is getting frustrating. We aren't looking for a 80lb low rider, we want a stable, calm APBT, but has to be a male.
There's just so many morons breeding these pups for a quick buck nowadays. I've inquired at a couple established APBT breeders about getting a pup, but spending a few thousand is out of the question for us. So, we keep checking the shelters, and CL, ect. been looking for a tad over a year now. I guess asking for a balanced, calm, socialized pup is asking alot..
Anyhow nice to back..

I totally understand your frustration, Greg!
Just curious what breeders you are looking at? A show quality dog shouldn't run you more than around 1,000 - 1200. Anything more than that, I'd be a bit suspect of the breeder. Many ADBA breeders will charge even way less than that.

I checked with a kennel named Blue Passion Kennels, and a couple in Texas, don't recall the names. Blue passion looks to have some nice pups, and seem to care about the breed, ect. They want $800.00 plus shipping, and I recall that they are in N.Y..
We really want to rescue a pup, as there are so many out there, I've looked at the rescue orgs. but they want you to jump through so many hoops to get a pup, and then they want 3 to 4 times as much as a private party, or a shelter, which is no big deal, but their attitude leaves something to be desired.
Anyway, I may have a line on a nice 6 month old blue male. Just waiting to find out if the pup has issues with other dogs.
As for other breeders, I have seen on the interwebs where they want 2 to 4 thousand USD, 2k seems to be the bottom price for the breeders here in Cali.

The breeders charging $2,000 - 4,0000 are "bully" type breeders (aka unethical, no health certs, no titles, etc, NOT real APBT), I'd guarantee (I don't even have to know which ones), which I'd run run RUN away from. I understand your frustration in wanting a pup and having a hard time finding what you are looking for in rescue. Good luck and hope you can find what you are looking for!

Hammer, I went and looked at Blue Passion's site. Those are 80, 102, 112 lb dogs (the random ones i looked at). Those are not APBT. They are misrepresenting themselves. Maybe you really want a large bully type nothing wrong w ith that. At the risk of putting my nose in where it shouldn't belong if you really are wanting a true apbt i hope you have or will do A LOT of research first. Where are you located? I have some friends who are very much connected in the world of the apbt and can ask for some info for you about who to talk to.
