there is a good 10-15 feet between the horse's fence and our new buffer fence. the fence went up today.
rufus's reactions:
while its way better then the first reactions, i still have a ways to go . i will always be outside with him close by just to be sure, i am hoping he gets used to the horse this way and eventually ignores the horse..
we shall see with time if he ignores the horse

I'm sure he'll get used to the horse. This barrier fence should at least make you feel better about him being out there!
Mav and Cappy spend a lot of time in my bedroom (my bedroom/crate and rotate place for them), where the chickens and turkeys come right up to the French doors. Sometimes there's just a pane of glass between them and a big Tom turkey. Initially, there were a few redirection issues when they both saw a chicken and freaked. Now, meh, they couldn't care less that the turkey's favorite spot is lying against the doors. And they can also see the goats llama, alpaca, mini-donkey, and the Great Pyr when we had her, and nothing. Now they will bark if someone is loose and goes on the porch in front of their doors, but even then it's just a few barks.
That horse will be old news in no time!

The reactions here are a heck of a lot better than before! This should make it easier and more enjoyable to be outside I'm sure. Like Allison said, in no time that horse will be old news!

I am hoping so but I still don't trust him. I make sure I have a leash in my pocket at all times in case I need to get him fast. He is still barking butitsnot as bad. A few people said it could be more territorial. Thenprey as he acts the same if a dog is in the yard tooo. Only time will tell

I understand you not trusting him, of course, but there is definitely progress, which is great!

another 2 feet of fence is going up, plus barbed wire as well. should he jump that then he will be permanently on leash for the rest of his life until he cant jump anymore or die. its a nice improvement true, but i dont trust him, he is a sneaky one ( he tested the entire fencing from one end to the other to find a weak spot, and when he did he put his head thru the spot to see if he could get thru it lol) i just hope i can get him to ignore the horse after a while. the bad part is the horse eggs the dogs on, she purposely will come down to her fence and antaganize the dogs by running around at the fence line and neighing....

Ha! Rufus reminds me of Brandy. She's so good and obedient in the house but get her outside and she's looking for anything she can chase, kill, jump over, or dig under. Must be something about those brindles lol!
