[pic EDIT by admin]
Hello everyone.Just joined the forum this is a pic of my first and not last pit bull.Just a week ago my lab past away.He was 8.I went to the shelter and found chris.I fell in love with him right away.Iam retired and also have a collie.Funny thing some family and friends said don't get him.He will be a problem.I don't see that.I still don't understand why some people hate them so much. But i hope to learn more about him on this forum. But i have to say again i thought he was a real cool looking guy.He is 3yrs old.Very playfull and a sweet guy.He is being neutered and i pick him up tomorrow. Now i think i have said enough and i can start learning about him.

Question to anyone i just picked up my dog he is great already getting along with the collie. But they told me to try and keep him inactive as possible for 2 weeks. They said maybe get a crate. This is due to the fact that he has the stiches from being neutered.I hate putting my dog in a crate.Should i do as they say and put him in a crate.Anybody ever have to deal with this?

When Saxon got neutered I didn't keep him crated for the entire two weeks, but he did sleep in his crate and was crated whenever I had to leave him. Otherwise he was free to roam around the house and I would just keep him quiet whenever I could. It was not easy!!

it takes at least a week for the stitches and incision to start to heal. you want to keep him calm the first week so he doesnt open his incision u. crate him or leash him to you so that he cant run and jump and pop his incision open

I know i probably ask too many questions. But here goes.Chris is a very active guy.So against what i hate iam going to buy a crate for him.Because when i go out for a while.I don't know what he will get into.Even with some training will i always have to use the crate because of him being so hyper.I guess he gets bored with nothing to do.He is sweet as can be when iam home.Gets along great with my collie. But he can make a mess quick.

First off welcome aboard! Chris is a cutie and you can ask as many questions as you like. Having a crate and doing crate training is the way to go.
It is also very important to keep your two separated when you are not there to supervise.

Yes he is cute and uses it to manipulate me.He is 50lbs so i would guess a medium crate would work.I was told not to get one to big.

Which crates would be considered better the all metal or plastic.

This is chris first time in the cage.He did not fight it or whine. How long should he be in the cage if iam home. When i go out he will be put in it until i get home.I have never had to do crate training so iam trying to figure out length's of time to keep him in it.And he looked as sad as can be when i put him in it.

Welcome, your pup is absolutely gorgeous! Here is a link to a thread in the Training & Behavior section on housetraining, which includes crate training. therealpitbull.proboards.com/thread/5549/housetrainingThere's another good one but I can't find it right now... I'll post it later if I can find it.
