Hello all. First I want to introduce my Pit Bull puppy Demon Shadow a 3 1/2 month old black brindle female pit bull. She joins my pack of two black lab/ German shepherd mixes their mom a full blooded German Shepherd three husky something else mixes and two Boston Terrier/min pin mixes. Demon as we call her was given to us by a "friend" who told us basically that we either take her or he was going to shoot her because she was "biting and scratching" their youngest child who has health problems. What they didn't tell us is that Demon once called "Dora" was very hungry and fear aggressive. They also didn't tell us that she didn't like men. We have owned her nearly four weeks now and she is no longer fear aggressive and loves to meet new people as long as they or I give her treats. She is doing great with men and strangers now and is no longer fearful. We are working on teaching her not to bite by gently gripping her nose for about two seconds and telling her firmly NO BITE or we tell her OUCH which works better than no bite. She is pretty good at walking on the leash and at letting us know she has to go out to potty. People on another website tell me that by having named her Demon Shadow I am setting her up to become aggressive.

Dogs don't know what their own names mean. However, having a Pit Bull named Demon...well, the public perception is going to be negative. Would you rather pet a dog named Demon or a dog named Wiggles? If her behavior is good, it shouldn't matter what her name is, but unfortunately the breed's persona is that of vicious dogs, so maybe calling her Shadow in public would help. I can just see a kid walking up to pet her and asking her name, and then a mom snatching the child back in disgust when you say Demon. I wish it didn't have to be this way, but it is what it is :/
Just a side note about having a Pit Bull and 8 other dogs...be careful. Sometimes Pits do well with other dogs, and sometimes not at all. Have a back up plan in place as she matures because she may get along with all of them now, and decide at 1-2 that she is no longer their friend.
PS: Pics please!!

I dont have any good ones of her right now and I plan on buying a few things for her as she gets older. I havent had a pit bull around for a while so I had forgotten a lot but she is a good girl. The only ones she seems to have issues with are Tundra and Drizzit my two female husky mixes. They are four years old and not sure what they are mixed with but they are pretty. Demon goes by Squirt or Runt out in public unless people ask what her name is. Then we tell them that her name is Demon Shadow. Someone asked me why the name and I told them it was because she acted like a demon when we first got her by taking a bite out of my husband. And the shadow part is because when she is inside and not crated and I am home she is my shadow always on my heels or close beside me. She is a beautiful black brindle with a white chest and blaze. She will be getting spayed after her first heat in another few months.

If you told me she took a bite out of your husband i wouldnt want to pet her either and i own a pitx.
Kick the demon name to the curb and call her shadow, its better and wont scare folks.
Dont be surprised if you have to keep her and your huskies 100% separated as she matures. Same sex aggression is common and if the 3 are having issues now it might continue and get worse

Took her to see the vet last week and got her shots done. The vet said she is 29 pounds and thinks that because she has all her adult teeth already that she is 8-10 months old. She is doing much better and was well behaved when she got her shots. is 29 pounds a good weight for a pup of now 4 months old?

Pit Bulls vary in size so greatly it is difficult to nail down a "normal" weight for a specific age.
