Hoarder!
The tiel is lovely, I always liked the pearls. Mine was a lutino, and it took over 5 years to bond because she was an adult when I got her. The pet shop lied. But it was another 23 years of great friendship. I still miss her.

Lol funny you said that. She tried to pull them out before lol Our ritual is i get home put dogs outside take her out of cage and put her on my shoulder and she goes with me around house as i do my chores... Then she goes back in cage dogs come in and eat and i sit with her for 3 hours..notice dogs are not happy outside while she is on my shoulder lol Attachments:

OMG she is ruining her tail as she likes to sit in her bowls with her tail sticking out of the bars:( And some more pics. She is funny - either she doesn't want to step up and come out of her cage or once she is out she goes behind my back so i cant put her back in her cage... She tries to bite me to not have her step up or to go back in the cage but its futile. Once she realizes it wont work she stops and then preens herself

When Aryn was 3 I bought her (me) a cockatiel that she named Lyksa. It wasn't a year old yet, but hand fed. The sweetest thing ever. I didn't know a thing about birds, but I doctored her through a round of being egg bound during the first year I had her. She was my "baby" but she also loved the kids. In 2003 we woke up one morning to find her on the bottom of the cage. She was around 5 yrs old by then. In hindsight, I think my downstairs neighbor 'cooked' something that lead to her death. A few weeks after she died, there was such a toxic smell in my apartment that we had to leave. It burned the throat and eyes. I reported it to my landlord who came back saying it had been spray paint. (my a$$ it was spray paint) It was a 2 story house with a basement apartment. He (cooker dude) lived in the basement. The dude moved out shortly after... and the police showed up to search the apartment. Hmmm...
Anyways. I have missed having a bird, but I don't think it's possible until I no longer have Cleveland. He just doesn't play well with others, and I'm worried I wouldn't be able to give it the attention they need to thrive.
Looking forward to hearing birdtails!

She tries to bite me to not have her step up or to go back in the cage but its futile. Once she realizes it wont work she stops and then preens herself It's pretty hard to keep the tail feathers nice. They need lots of turning room. You could try smaller bowls that attach to the bars and take out the larger ones. That step-up behavior is pretty typical. It'll change once she trusts you more. For the most part my dogs left the birds alone. Hogan used to feed them. The dogs would sit by the cage, he would drop pieces of food to the floor and say, "Uh-oh!" Only Molly for a short time cared about them. However, Sedona shows great interest. She doesn't get access, not even visually.

I'll see if i can take the bowls out. I have narrow feeders on the bottom of the cage I'll move stuff around and see how that goes. Sadie loves her and rufus wants her as a snack lol
I got the same feeder/waterer that she has before. She loves to sleep in the round feeder bowl . She uses the water bowl for her bath so I'll try to figure something out.

I took most of the toys out too to give her more room. I figured the step up thing was possibly a trust thing. Should i leave the food/water feeders on the bottom? Here are two of them, the water one is on the left side of cage I'm going to move it next to green feeder Attachments:

So here they are on bottom of cage. If i leave it this way she wont ruin her tail . And it gives her more room on top. She was in a much smaller cage with the woman. I've been looking on craigslist at flight cages as those seem better cause they are longer.im trying to find a reasonably priced one Attachments:

Yes melonie smells can kill them, that's probably what happened to yours:(
That's why miners keep birds in the mines, if gases escape the birds die and it warns the miners.
I havent had a bird since i was a kid .. Always wanted another one . So now i got one lol

I changed the cage around and put the food and water up high by the perches. I moved the rope perch so she wont get her tail feathers mushed in bars . Have i said how much i love tapatalk ? Its awesome i can post pics from my cell here lol. Attachments:
