As a breed enthusiast, I thought it would be interesting to find out which breeds (aside from our pit bulls) other posters are intrigued by and/or would like to own (whether realistically we would or not). Here's my list in no special order: Sloughi Beauceron (realllllly considering that one) Papillion (ownership is a strong possiblity as my daughter has earned her breed choice for agility and Therapy Dog training) Bullmastiff Another Doberman Pinscher German Shepherd Dog (my life long favorite though I wouldn't be able to afford the quality I want) Bull Terrier Caucasian Ovcharka German Pinscher (NOT miniature pinscher) Belgian Tervuren Greyhound Ibizan (wire only) Another Rottweiler Chinese Crested (Yep, I'd dye the head hair pink and slap on a spiked collar) Borzoi Whippet Another Brittany (though I always told myself I wouldn't b/c my heart dog would be impossible to replace) Border Collie (Had I the energy to actually train my own dog!) Tibetan mastiff

I consider myself fortunate since several of my friends own some of my favorite breeds. So I regularly get my Dobe, GSD and BC, etc fix.

When he trotted around the ring, his mane flowed and bounced, and he looked like a lion.

That's way cool, Andrea Newfs are gorgeous. I have had a thing for St Bernards for years. When I was very young, my brother and I were visiting my mom's friends house. They had two dogs. A young, obnoxious mix of some sort. And a female St Bernard. We were in the yard with the dogs, the parents were indoors. The mix was jumping at us, nipping, and overall harassing us. I remember the St walking up to the mix, putting herself inbetween us and calmly and assertively keeping the mix from bothering us after that. It was pretty amazing and I never forgot that dog. Just something about how she carried herself that said, "there is more behind these eyes than 'just dog' ".

I've been intrigued by Filas for a while. But I don't think I'd ever own one.

"there is more behind these eyes than 'just dog' " That's how I've always felt about St. Bernards My friends growing up had 3 of them and they were just amazing. I was at their house at least once a week for the longest time, and those dogs showed nothing but kindness and love to everyone. They were always calm, even around so many rambunctious kids. I would LOVE to have one someday.

I've been intrigued by Filas for a while. But I don't think I'd ever own one. Same here. There's a Fila in an Allentown, PA shelter, mislabeled as a Mastiff. This dog really need to be pulled by Mastiff rescue...a Fila needs to be placed very, very carefully.

A story sticks in my mind of a Fila climbing a tree to get at a perpetrator (as per some K9 officers I knew). Dog wasn't trained to do it. Just what they are bred to do....

Ooh, I forgot Leonbergers...ahhh. I have an aquaintance who raises Filas. Never really did it for me. I have an affection for hounds, also but not the ranging ones, more like the Harrier and English Foxhounds. When I was preteen-ish we had a neighbor, military guy, move in next door with a young St Bernard. She was the sweetest thing and I remember coming home from school one day and didn't see her. Her owner told me he had to have her put to sleep b/c she had hip dysplasia. That got me researching and led me to OFAing my Rottweiler I got a few years later. It was so sad. One day she was there, next she was gone. My husband loves English bulldogs and I do too but I don't think I could ever bring myself to own one. Not the overdone caracatures, maybe a real bulldoggy type Olde English. It's just too hot and humid down here for those guys and I like to get out and do stuff with my dogs, not sit around serving them ice cubes and fanning them with palm leaves.
