my dog trainer is looking for a female hound or beagle dog, 18 months old, for training for bed bug detection . she has a male beagle that is already certified in bug bed detection and is looking for a female dog to train.
requirements are the dog must be a beagle or hound type dog, female, 18 months old.
my trainer is in northern nj so she has to go evaluate a potential working dog..
let me know if anyone in this area or upstate ny has one..

Yes, Mary! I saw a program on TV about the bed bug dogs...it was pretty cool! Would a Basset work? A Beagle would probably be better, tho.

yep, my trainer is doing it with her trained male beagle, now she wants a female.. apparently there is alot of money to be made in bed bug detection.. since my trainer is a SAR trainer and does SAR, she found this to be fun .
i know she wants a beagle or hound type dog, female... i think a basset might be too short

i found out this morning what my trainer does. she takes max the beagle and goes to nyc to the bed bug office.. she gets her paperwork on what apts/commerical bldgs she has to go check out, then her and max get on the subway and start their day checking out every apartment and commercial building on her list. then once she is done they return to the main office, turn in their findings, and she leaves around 4 to drive back up here...

18 months is a more mature age, so what you see is what you get, plus she has to test the dog to see if she has what it takes to sniff out bedbugs.. she has her own other dogs as well, and has to make sure the new female gets along with her other dogs to

There are transports available, we have adopted dogs to the NE before.
Yeti has drive, intense with her nose, tons of energy but little attention training or specialized activities. Food motivated.
You are welcome to give her Frances' contact info and she can call her to speak with her for more information, maybe she would be a match. 251-786-7297.
