No offense to any Aussies, but sometimes I really wonder about that country.

Maybe if people in this country (US) would report EVERY dog attack, the stats would be different. Example: Yorkie bites someone, "Oh, you frightened him! That wasn't his fault!" or one of those really annoying "Oh, look! He thinks he's a big mean dog, isn't that cute!"

That wasn't his fault!" or one of those really annoying "Oh, look! He thinks he's a big mean dog, isn't that cute!" Agreed!!! My boyfriend's old neighbor used to have a Chihuahua and that thing was the nippiest, yappiest dog I have ever met. One time it bit his little sister but the owners said that it was the 5 year olds fault because she was running. She was in HER own yard and the d*mn dog was loose! But when Boomer was outside they glared at him and put their little "princess" dog in the house because our vicious Pit Bull was going to eat the dang thing! *sigh* I get quite irritated when I think about this. If Boomer would have bit one of them he would be dead and I would be paying a massive fine. But guess what? The Chihuahua is alive and the police issued them a warning and asked them to keep it on a leash. Needless to say, the dog still roams the neighborhood!

When I groomed dogs I always DREADED the small ones. The big 'mean' dogs were like a huge relief.

I really wish people with small dogs would stop letting them get away with aggressive behaviour. It's like small-man-complex translated into the dog world.

Yeah we have a neighbor has 6 little yipping fools re directing a snarling fight on each other when I pass with Rocky. could you imagine if I had 6 pit bulls doing that. Someone would call the cops for sure.

Someone would call the cops for sure. Exactly! But they are small so it is ok! My parents have a Cocker Spaniel and that dog is so snippy. To be completely honest I can’t stand that dog! She practically lies on my mom’s lap when my mom is eating, she is constantly barking & begging, when she is around Boomer she nips at his legs and saying she doesn’t listen is an understatement! The “N” word is forbidden (No)! My parents would flip if Boomer so much as raised his hackles around her, let alone nipped at her! But she is a smaller dog so it is ok! Sometimes I find myself not liking small dogs then I have to remind myself that it is not the dogs fault but the owners!

Soon ALL DOGS will be listed as Dangerous! I had a potential adopter this week for one of our long timers! And when she checked with her home owners insurance they gave her a list of 15 breeds that she is not allowed to own! 15, and also none of those breeds could be in the mix!
Its getting out of control!

This has been something that has been a point in anti-BSL circles for a while - that more and more breeds will be added to the Dangerous list. It will hardly begin and end with APBTs. Also, as shown with some rental clauses, size and not even breed, is a point of discrimination, too.
I should have moved this sooner, but this convo is definiately on topic, so I'll move to the Issues board.

In my experience it has been lhasa apsos and miniature schnauzers that have bitten the most of us in the grooming salon. Any given day if you walk in and there is a dog with a muzzle on because they bite, it is a small breed dog. I don't think I have ever seen a muzzle on a large breed dog in the shop, that's not to say that there aren't any that would ever come in and bite, just sayin.
The only dog bite I have gotten that hurt past a couple of weeks was from a lab and that was from breaking up a dog/dog fight. We have many pit bulls that come in and none of them have ever bitten another dog or a human during grooming.

I often find myself not liking small dogs for the same reason. I become so mad at the owner for thinking the growling little dog is "cute". No, it's not cute. And if that dog bites you, no big deal. Get a band aid.
In the 12 "big" dogs I've owned in my life, from Pits to a St. Bernard, herding mixes, an Aussie, etc. I have only had one dog that ever bit a human. That dog was my poor deaf/blind Aussie. Poor guy had lots of issues unrelated to his impairments and ultimately had to be humanely euthanized at the recommendation of 3 vets after biting or attempting to bite myself, my husband, a neighbor, and others. I don't think it was because he was an Aussie, I think it was due to his neurological issues.
I can only recall 3 dogs ever trying to bite me, and those 3 were small dogs not owned by myself or my family. They were 2 chihuahuas and a Boston. What's the common thread here?
Just today I was growled at by a friend's GSD. Not a small dog, but still, not a Pit either.
Also, I think we need to consider the number of Pit/ Pit mixes in today's society. Let's just say that out of every 100 dog bites, 20 are from Pits. Well, how many Pits are owned in that area? Everyone and their brother owns a Pit/mix so naturally the number of bites will be higher if the number of Pits compared to other dogs is drastically higher! If there are 100 Pits and 5 Labs in your town, which breed is going to cause the most number of bites? It's really just common sense!
