Hi all, My foster dog, Penelope, desperately needs a forever home. I thought I was agreeing to foster for a couple of weeks; that was a year and a half ago. She really can't stay in my house any longer - I have three cats, and she is cat-aggressive. All of our lives are one big pile of stress: Penelope is stressed (and bouncing off the walls) because she has to stay in a crate for 23 hours a day, my cats are stressed because there is a pit bull in the house who wants to eat them, my dog is stressed because Penelope's constant struggle to eat the kitties keeps her on-edge 24/7, even though my dog loves the cats (and I don't trust her to be out with the cats when Penelope's around), and I am stressedstressedstressed because I feel like I'm being both a terrible pet owner AND a terrible foster mom - I work 60 hours a week and just don't have the time and energy to have two adult female pit bulls in the house anymore. Penelope's been listed on multiple rescue sites across the country for over a year now, and I can't possibly imagine why she hasn't gotten any applicants. She is the perfect[i/] dog for a cat-free home - completed an 8-week-long obedience course, super duper extra sweet (she will do absolutely anything to please you), gets along perfectly with other dogs of all sizes, and she is absolutely stunning - the perfect catch!
Spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped, etc. – completely read to go!
Won't you please, please consider adding Penelope to your family? I promise you will not be disappointed!
Transport is available anywhere in the US - I am moving in the Spring and absolutely can not take Penelope with me. The rescue group I am fostering for is completely full and out of foster homes, so if she doesn't find a home before I move, her future is grim.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

spending 23 hours in a crate is not good. is there any way you can put the cats in a bedroom, shut the door, gate the door, and let penelope out for more exercise?? where do you live? i have a friend of mine who is looking to adopt an adult pit bull she lives in port jervis ny and has other dogs so the dog she adopts should be dog friendly to a degree..

Penelope is gorgeous!!!!
Sounds like you plate is full right now but it might help if like Maryellen said you can put the cats away and let Penelope out of her cage a little bit more. I do agree you do not want to leave any of them together unsupervised.
Did I miss how old she is?

I was wondering which rescue she is with? You alluded to the rescue euth'ing for space when you move since they will be losing a foster spot and are full now. I just find that a little upsetting. When this sort of situation occurs a rescue will normally kennel if need be for at least a little while until a new foster is found. Honestly if she is being crated for 23 hours a day right now, a kennel would be a step up for her. Penelope sounds like a really nice dog and it would be a shame to see her go down. I know you are trying to do right by her and help her get a home - hopefully someone will be able to help her out ASAP. Sorry you are in such a sticky situation.

Thank you for all the replies. Of course, crated for 23 hours a day is the worst-case scenario, but it happens a lot during the week. I have a fenced-in yard, so during the weekend while I'm at home, we go for walks and I let her play outside while I'm in the shower/watching tv etc. I would never leave her outside unattended, however, as a) I don't trust my fence completely and b) several pit bulls in my city have been taken from yards lately. I live near Memphis, TN, but I don't want location to be a limiting factor - I am more than willing to provide transportation anywhere in the US for her. And, I forgot to post her age. We're guessing 2-3 years. Thanks again, Sierra

Please list her age and any other details you have about her..where she came from how she ended up in the rescue (if known) She was found running around near a busy highway, in heat, with a prolapsed (won't let me type the word - we'll go with va-jay-jay No collar, no microchip, skinny. She was unable to urinate and had to go into emergency surgery. She made a full recovery and has no health issues now. She also had a mild skin infection, but after a round of antibiotics and a grain free diet (Taste of the Wild), her skin is fine. We're guessing she's 2-3 years old.
