All three of mine poop once a day. Rocky and Sedona have very small movements, Lola is a grazer so hers are generally larger than both, even though she gets less food. As Chubby's body adjusts, you may see some different things he'll do that he hasn't done before. Vomiting right after eating and re-eating it, constipation or soft stools, and foul body odor aren't unusual. This generally goes away after a couple weeks.
If you suspect constipation, add some veggie mix and/or canned pumpkin. Maybe an extra squirt of salmon or flaxseed oil on his meal can help.
Does he stink yet? ;D

Funny enough, he doesn't stink! I had issues with him getting foul and a little yeasty-gross smell even after getting a bath (like by the next day he stunk!) and now he hasn't had a bath in about two weeks (last one was a medicated bath) and he still hasn't started getting his stinky body odor! I'm pretty happy about that!
New things since going raw: - Waaaaay less poop - No body stank - More scooting - More burbly belly noises if he doesn't get his yogurt (with extra probiotics formula) - Energy swings (one minute he is super mellow the next he can't wait to get outside) - No stinky breath - Less yeasty ear smells - No real continued redness from allergies (his snout is normal skin colored and freckly, not bright pink to red like it used to be) - Haven't had to give him any Benedryl in about two weeks (he used to take one 25mg tab twice a day, two tabs twice a day when it was really bad!)

I don't remember any of my dogs detoxing (that's what would cause the stink after the switch) but Sedona smelled like poop for about two weeks during her detox. I didn't even want to be near her!
My dogs all showed great benefits from raw. No more ear problems or scaly nose or foot licking, greater energy levels, better anal gland expression (no more vet visits for that, made my vet happy!), less need for baths, harder nails, less dander, better appetite, and in Jackson's case, no more separation anxiety.
Try fasting Chubby for one meal. You'll see energy like never before!

I'm afraid to fast Chubby, he'll get more dramatic than Blanche in a Streetcar Named Desire!!

scooting means not enough bone as his anal glands need more firmer poops to work properly, try adding a little more ground bone to his meals and see what happens. it should get better with more bone

Ok, so his once perfect little poops have gone away. He is now struggling to poop, and when it comes out it is very very soft. I honestly think there is no bone in this shipment of his ground food (because his first shipment I could see the bone bits and now I don't even feel them if I squish the mix in my hands). I think that may be the issue so I am going to go to the Vitamin Shoppe and pick up some bone meal power. My question is about how much should I feed him? www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=KA-1050I feel so horrible, seeing him squat and squat and squat trying to get something out and even then he continues to squat for a few seconds after like he's waiting for more to come out. And he's scooting on the rugs again.

poor chubs! there is probably no bone in that shipment, you can try one teaspoon bone meal to start and see if that helps, and add/remove accordingly....

Should I give him a little boiled rice or just try the bone meal? The last few days he's been getting his normal two spoonfuls of plain yogurt (helps keep his tummy quiet) and about a big spoonful of pumpkin (which helped a little, but not enough).
I emailed hare-today to see if they mislabeled a bag or changed their formula or something.

So its been a little while that Chubby has been doing raw and everything seems to be going well...except his poop! In the beginning it was fine (small, once a day, normal looking, brown). then it got runny and very muscusy and there was blood so after a trip to the vet (and metronilazole, not the right spelling, and some propectaline later) he was back to no blood, yellowy and semi soft on its way to getting back firmer. Now its getting very yellowy-brown, back to very soft and shiny and occurs about twice a day. He is eating either the beef mix (meat/tripe/organs/bone) / large sardines / chopped beef gullet (one of those things at a time!) with whole milk (with extra probiotics formula) plain yogurt and a little cooked rice. What am I doing wrong? What should I be doing instead? I'm getting frustrated because everything is going so well for him on the raw except for his poop. Sometimes he gets a teaspoon extra of bone meal powder I bought at Vitamin Shoppe. I don't want to have to end up at the vet's office over this again

Rocky has a beef sensitivity. Maybe Chubbs, too?
If it were me, I'd try another meat source. Duck, or goat. Drop the dairy and use a straight probiotic.

Chubby can't do any poultry (allergic) and rabbit or goat can been pretty pricey. The sardines are fairly afforable though (and already have the bones in them). Should I try that? Add a little beef liver a few times a week (I've read that organ is very important especially good liver). The yogurt tends to keep his belly happy and quiet (almost anything makes his belly burble pretty loudly).

Sugar...perhaps the sardines are the cause of the problem....maybe you are giving a bit too much and they are giving him gastro problems.

Before the last visit he hadn't gotten very much in the way of sardines. Should so I just nix everything he's getting right now and try ground beef with some powdered bone meal for a bit and see if it helps?

i bet there is too much organ in the mix.. organ meat is VERY rich, which will cause loose poop.. thats why i dont like premade, you never know how much meat/organ/bone is in it. unless you know the distributor well, i would get a grinder and start grinding your own food to make sure you kow what is going in his food.

also too much pumpkin will make his poops loose too and i agree, you can feed a whole lot other then chicken if he is allergic to it.

He's not getting any pumpkin, I will drop the yogurt, but there is no room for my own grinder (as much as I would like it). I'm in a converted studio apt with zero closets lol.
Was thinking of going to Trader Joes and buying some of their organic meats and just trying that by itself for a bit. Like just plain ribs or ground meat (with a little bone meal) and seeing if that helps. I was wondering if it would be the organ and tripe.
I get his premade stuff from hare-today.com that lists it at at: "This is approximately 80%meat, 7%tripe, 7% organ [heart, liver, lung, and kidneys]and 6% bone"
