I think the Frenchie case is a little different in that the dog just kept getting worse and worse, while Vesper continues recovering. To me, I always feel like I would try if there is a chance, but if it doesn't look like any recovery is being made then obviously its best to put the animal to peace. I used to work for an animal clinic and saw first hand how the vet would tell the owners that nothing can be done and the animal is suffering and how owners refused to do anything other than continue more pills/injections/whatever to keep the animal going. That is wrong because then you are putting yourself before your pet. For me, my last dog Bunny had what looked like a bad case of reverse sneezing. Took her to the vet for xrays (about $1000), they found nothing. Then she had a massive bleeding through her nose episode, off to emergency vet ($1200) and more screenings/diagnostics to the tune of $1600. Then we found out it was terminal and highly aggressive. I was told I had about six months. Had to put her down three weeks later because she coouldn't breath anymore (literally was mostly ok in the morning, by the afternoon was wheezing terribly).
This is why I feel if there is a chance it can be fixed (like we orginally thought with Bunny) then I say try. But once it doesn't look like there is hope, the kindest thing to do it let go. Thats how I felt when I first saw/heard about Tivi (the pitbull shar pei mix), and thats how I feel about Vesper. Try as long as the animal is gettig better, healthier and less and less pain.

I think that if you can do something to save an animal it's always better to try. Just look how happy and healthy Vesper looks now! Had they euthanized him, he would have died without ever knowing love and happiness. Now he will get a few years in a wonderful home. There are some situations, though, where the animal is being kept alive for the sake of the human and those are always bad situations. It's always a tough call.

I would hope Vespar isn't a fund raising 'front'. I hope that the organization has done this because someone saw that spark in him, and listened to intuition. It is hard to make that decision or judge anyone else for their decisions. Being 10, he should have a few good years left though... and hopefully he gets to live the good life.
