My girlfriend and I were enjoying an after work beer when we heard a knock on the door. It was our next door neighbor (a saint and dog lover who has three rescues of her own). She picked up a stray (blurry phone pics below) mix that was wondering around a church in town. The 1ish year old female was covered in dirt and fleas. There's also evidence that she was tied/chained up somewhere at some point, and either escaped or was dropped off. She's sweet and healthy, although definitely on the skinny side. Gets along with dogs and cats. She's submissive, but not shy. Anyway, the neighbors knew better than to drop her off at the local shelter due to the fact the door only goes one way for pit bulls/pit bull mixes, they don't adopt out. They know me and my dog, Eko. So they asked if I was interested in taking her. She looks like a pit bull mix, or maybe American bulldog. We let animal control know we have her. However, I doubt anyone is going to come looking. So... Over the next few days we'll be going to see the veterinarian, shots, spay, etc., etc.. I'm crossing my fingers that she doesn't have heartworms, or anything else. It's funny to me that just after passing the CGC with Eko, this lands in my lap. Here she is:    Wish us luck. |

She's so cute! Hope everything goes well at the vet's office! How is Eko with other dogs? He's great with other dogs. He has a few playmates that he sees on a regular basis. I couldn't ask for better in that regard, luckily. Here he is with his buddy, Dusty:  |

Here's another pic, and a quick update:  She's super sweet, doesn't seem to be into chewing, and Eko is head over heels for her. We've doing long walks, and she's already getting the loose leash thing. We'll see the vet on Monday. Thanks for all the well wishing. |

Good news, she's heartworm negative! Has some intestinal worms (no surprise there), and tested positive for Ehrlichia (as in been exposed, but not active). Ehrlichia is a tick born disease. They are a real problem here. It may never manifest itself at all. More on that here for those interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EhrlichiosisAlso, it became very obvious that she is in season, so she will be spayed at a later date, and obviously sequestered from any intact males. Eko is neutered of course. She's already walking on a loose leash, and starting to learn SIT. Here they are in all their spoiled glory:  |

Wow what happened to you is the story I am waiting for. I am not actively seeking a dog waiting for something to just happen like if one like her came along it would be a match made in heaven.
