Is it stupid that I feel like crying because once again a family has chosen not to adopt him?
To be fair, the husband doesn't feel like his wife is ready to commit to being a consistent guardian for a dog like a pit bull. So it is likely the smart thing to do.
But poor Zeke. I'm trying to talk my ex into taking my lab for awhile. Thinking about bringing Zeke home until we do find him a home. I'd likely rotate him back to the shelter so I can bring Rhett home on my days off as well.
After seeing him in a home, and how well, and how easily he made himself at home... made me want him out of the shelter life even more.

if the husband feels the wife isnt commited, its better that zeke doesnt go there just to be returned again.. it happens, sometimes it takes a few months /years to find that perfect home. dont cry, all the rescues are going thru what you are going thru trying to find the best home for their dogs too

Sorry for Zeke. But unfortunately that is the hardest part about volunteering at shelters. People always say to me they cant do it because they want to take them all home. I am able to do it by realizing just my stopping by and giving them attention is more then they would get if I don't. And I realize I am making there adoption chances better. Those dogs are actually in a good position as they have you socializing them and keeping them happy. Many just sit in a cage all day with no place to play. Like the shelter I go too. The small play yard not open to volunteers. There is no fostering. Dogs get taken for walks on slip leads and just choke the crap out of self trying to get away. The dog I work with the most has been there for years and she is probably now soon to go into senior dog. Poor girl.

I know our dogs are lucky to be where they are. They are all happy, even though it still isn't ideal.
It is just frustrating that people will adopt a crazy leash pulling ill mannered lab mix before a well mannered, obedient pit bull.
I did ask the guy to keep Zeke, Ollie and Rhett in mind if he hears of anyone looking for a pit bull. The more people know about our place, the better.

I know what ya mean about the pulling ill mannered Lab thing. I see it all the time. The best is when they think my harness is some kind of magic device that if they buy it their dog will behave like mine.

Aww Melonie, I know it is upsetting to see a special fave at a rescue or shelter continually get passed over for other dogs. But sometimes the best dogs take the longest to place for some odd reason, especially when it comes to Pit Bulls. Just hang in there and be strong for Zeke. I am sure someone will fall in love with him before you know it and it will be a match made in heaven. Better to wait longer for the perfect home, than sacrifice your ideals just to get him placed sooner. It'll happen, just hold that thought and "know" it is true.

Since this original post, we were contacted from a pit bull rescue in SD. about this family. They are looking at a couple of the smaller pit bulls that they have. I have also talked to the husband about Cleveland as well. It really boils down to them wanting a smaller pit bull that his wife will be able to handle on walks etc.
I didn't feel like explaining that a 110lb woman can easily walk a 105lb dog so long as it is leash trained, has a solid recall, etc etc. (Zeke weighs about 60lbs with his winter weight, he gets thinner in the summer from all the fun in the sun) I also didn't explain that a 45lb pit bull can be one hell of a strong lil bugger too. They will make good pit bull owners eventually.... they just need to find the one that steals their heart.

I understand totally though as I would like a small dog for my mom but i would not turn down a calm large one. I have some friends who think a smaller dog has a smaller bite. Now that is silly. Yeah does not sound as if Zeke is for them.
