People are annoying and nosy about what other people eat. Can't stand it. Leave me alone and let me eat what I want, stop trying to play nutritionst.

I'm not even a real vegetarian (I eat fish on occasion) and people ask me all the time "You're a vegetarian? What do you eat!?" Is it really that hard for people to imagine a meal without meat?

Cat, I know! We were talking at a party last Saturday, a few of us, and it came out (because I wasn't eating anything) that I'm eating vegan. My dogs' vet, of all people, asked where I get my protein from? I just said anything that's not animal derived. Mary, my boss is still mocking me. He loves pushing my buttons. That same woman ^, she hates beans, and every day at lunch she looks at my plate and goes "ewww." So fucking don't look.

Dave, the bad part of being vegan/vegetarian is how freaking stupid and judgmental people are about your eating habits. Lame.

I'm not vegan, or even vegetarian, but my wife and I always used to love going to New Harmony, a Buddhist vegetarian restaurant in Philly's Chinatown. They specialize in the old Buddhist "mock meat" recipes the Buddhists used to attract people to vegetarianism. So their menu sounds like it is full of meat dishes, but there is none there whatsoever. Judy and I especially loved the "fish" and sweet and sour "spare ribs". The irony is that although I grew up in Greater Philly and moved back here, it was one of my former University of Chicago professors who turned me onto this place, and he was the world's most unrepentant omnivore, proud of his love of, eg, ox (blank). But he was a food hedonist, always looking for the next adventure in eating, and he was also particularly fond of all things Chinese. He even wrote a fairly popular book called The Eater's Guide to Chinese Characters, which got rave reviews nationally. Here's the Yelp on this place, including address and phone number: www.yelp.com/biz/new-harmony-vegetarian-restaurant-philadelphia
