my son reported seeing a dog out front that was the 3rd time in a week this dog was seen. I went out and whistled and she ran right too me. I took a photo with my cell phone but with all the excitement I forgot to save it. Anyway she was mostly white with tan spots and tan ears and a furry tail and some kind of bull breed face but not a bully body at all more like shepherd in body and hair. Such a sweet girl looking for loves. ROcky was in the window with my son and he was howling his head off. It was so friggen cold and did not know what to do. I opened the back of my car hoping my back up leash was there. she jumped right in. but no leash. She had a nylon strangle collar with no ID tag.I called my son who brought one out. I leashed her and she walked so nicely. I went in the basement with her and she laid right down on the cold floor. I got the number for the shelter and called to ask if a dog of her description in my area was missing. I was told there are a couple of female pit bulls out together. GREAT. There is also a boxer missing, they did not seem to know about. I was told I would have to bring her in now because they close at 4pm, but last time i did that by the time I got back home the people were looking for their dog. So I told her I want to take her for a walk and see if anyone is looking for her or knows her. So shelter said, then you have to keep her overnight then and they would pick her up in the mornng. I responded worst case I can keep her crated in the heated basement for the night. For a split second I thought this was the girl I was waiting for to just arrive at my door. So we began walking down the street when I saw a little boy walking and I heard him say LUCY! he was on other side of snow bank and did not see us. I said to him, is this your dog. Of course it was. And she was happy I knew her name. I asked the boy who was carrying a pink leash with a choke chain collar attached if I could walk her home with him so I know where they live in the future. He said sure.
Well she lives on the next street up. Just about right behind me.
She did not want to get passed off to her owner and I stayed talking with them and holding her leash for a bit. I talked with them about why the dog keeps getting out. She runs out the door they are having to use as other door is frozen shut. I suggested a gate. Apparently no room for a gate. I suggested tossing treats for her not going out door or to distract her from going out door. Apparently they tried that. Then a cat came running out the door, he had tags. But still I said. Ah you know your cat got out. And I was told she knows her way home. I was told they plan on putting in electric fence once it thaws and for now they are keeping her tethered when they let her out. So I am expecting a visitor now on a regular basis. As she seemed to want to come back home with me. I called the shelter back to let them know. I was told if I get tired of bringing her back home to just bring her in. I should have gotten their telephone # so I dont have to keep walking her back.
I dont know what is going on but I have another neighbor who's dog is out everyday. It is worthless to talk to them and too much to explain why. But that dog will bite me if I try to leash her, I know I have tried. Apparently their gate is frozen open.
My concern is Rocky is going to bust out trying to chase these dogs. He gets very excited when he sees them. And the one with the broken gate I think he is really getting irritated about her.
