Being known as the largest Pit Bull rescue and rehabilitation center in the world, Villalobos is home to an average of 150 Pit Bulls daily and a large handful of parolees, family members and volunteers. Recently moving to Tehachapi, California, their work in the rescue field is being challenged by a member of the community.
Urging residents of the small town to send in letters of objection to council members, the local woman upset over the move has listed her telephone number for those wishing to oust the group; (661) 822-3361. The woman claims that they have “already had a Pitt Bull experience on this ranch with a previous dog fighting operation”, and says she is also “reminded about the case in San Francisco of Diane Whipple, mauled to death in her own hallway by a “people friendly” dog, (although not a Pitt Bull) raised by prisoners”. The Presa Canarios involved were raised by an acquaintance of a prison gang member, (who was behind bars for a life sentence) on a farm.
Tia Maria Torres, owner of Villalobos Rescue, has responded in confusion to the unexpected outburst. She has requested that supporters of Villalobos contact pitbullrescue13@gmail.comwith letters, or to inquire about attending the hearing scheduled for March 10th. Letters are asked to be sent on behalf of the rescue no later than today, February 22nd, 2011.
Voted one of L.A.’s most important people, Tia is known for taking in abandoned and abused Pit Bulls to rehabilitate and re-home them for a second chance on life. The star of the hit television series, Pit Bulls and Parolees, is also known for hiring parolees to help their rehabilitation process along in a positive and compassionate manner.
