she loves the couch Dave, she spent all her time either on the couch here or playing with rufus.. she looks like she is warming up already... wait till you let her sleep with you then she will warm up to you faster lol.... dave if your back yard is fenced in you can start there with training if she gets ok with the back yard.. this way you can just work her in the yard , its good exercise and even if she doesnt want to be out in public you can use the weight pull as exercise for her in the yard (and in the winter maybe have her gather wood lol in the back yard that falls from the trees lol) LOL! The sleeping area is going to be her crate for a long while. I'm sure you've been scared awake with snarling in the bed, I don't want to deal with that again. Half the time Rocky and Lola prefer to stay on the sofa when I hit the sack. Twice now she's been in the yard with Rocky and Lola for potty breaks. They leave her alone when I tell them to, but their company doesn't make Sedona any more comfortable. She finally pooped this evening. Even I felt better after that! All my plans have pretty much flown out the window. I'm about two weeks ahead of them. ;D

Charging the battery now... The camera isn't that great. Point-and-shoot delay really ruins alot of pix. Yeah, you keep saying that. And I keep wondering why you didn't? Mary is happy I did, also. Now I just have make Sedona happy. (she's sleeping next to me now. Guess where.)

i was lucky her and rufus once they hit the bed they both slept like logs so i never had to wake up with any snarling. even when i had my house and a house full of dogs i lucked out with no snarling in bed lol.
dont worry, she will come around with the yard once she realizes she doesnt have to worry, and i bet rocky and lola ARE helping her when they are in the yard you just cant see it

She's a doll! I'm sure in time she will adjust very nicely.

Dave, thanks for all the updates and blow-by-blows. I'm just so stoked about this placement. I've been dealing with this little girl since Oct, and I've watched her behavior change for the better, hit road blocks, keep chugging along, and deal with everything that's come her way. It's been inspiring, I just cannot believe how resilient she is, even though yes, she is fearful. Now that she has a home of her own, it's just a little overwhelming emotionally for me; she SO deserves this. I know she will be fine, I just can't wait for HER to realize that she is fine. ;D Dave, you rock! Tell Rocky and Lola I said hi!

Mary, this little dog is the strongest puller I've ever had! Oh man, I meant to tell you that. She is really probably the strongest pound for pound dog I've ever handled. The best way I've dealt with it is Be A Tree (if you want my training protocol, I'll email it to you), on the front connect harness or head collar. I think she needs to do weight pull........

She did a funny thing this morning.
Every morning I sit on the sofa with my laptop and do my finances, get news, read email, while the breakfast warms up for the dogs. This morning I had Sedona out with me, and she's very happy, and she starts rubbing herself like a cat on my back, arms, under my arms just wagging her tail.
Silly thing.
And we had our first accidental meeting inside. Lola and Rocky were fine with it, it lasted maybe 15 seconds. Sedona could hardly contain herself she was so happy. We did a good thing for her, Mary.

Yes, she is like a little cat! She does that rubbing thing when she is warming up/feeling more secure. Awww sigh. Little girl! I agree, a good thing.

Yeah, I'm doing that. She walks around in circles, always the same direction. She spins me dizzy. ;D Can't wait for her calm down so we can start working on leash manners.

CC is making leaps and bounds in her adjustment. She pretty much spent the entire evening either in my lap or curled up next to me as I spent the evening on my laptop working on shelter stuff. She didn't need to be dragged outside, but came more or less willingly; Rocky and Lola are very okay with her outdoors, and even spent a few minutes with her in the living room tonight.
I hope I'm not pushing that part... but Sedona is just ecstatic to have them around. How can that be bad?

Hey if it makes her more comfortable and they are not getting all crazed then I don't see the harm in it. It is amazing though. She must realize that she has it way better then in the past. Dogs seem to do what we don't. "Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could have been any different" First time I heard that I did not get it. But dogs sure do.

I'd def say work slower rather than faster with the other dogs, more for their benefit than hers. But yeah she really, really just loves other dogs. Luca would not play with her and I know she really needed "siblings" she could interact with. In other news, Luca is just so much happier back to being an only child......

I'm allowing interaction where there's no competition and the dogs can focus on a goal, such as going outdoors. They are together for seconds and then separate. Where attention and especially food is involved, absolute separation. Baby steps. Lola is still pretending Sedona doesn't exist. Rocky goes back and forth between indifference and interest, but he is so attuned to me a simple word draws his focus back to me. Those two are moping a bit. They're not used to being shut off from me. Sedona is slowly getting better at being outdoors, and Maryellen was right about being with the other dogs helping Sedona outside. Once the leash is on she pretty much comes quietly. But oh the contortions she goes through before it's on! Last evening we had a good two hours together, and she was about as cuddly as I could stand.

Yay! I haven't been able to log in from my computer, so I'm on my daughter's laptop catching up. It's so awesome that you were able to adopt her, Dave! Congrats and all the best to you and your family!
