It's official...

At our monthly board meeting tonight I gave notice that next month the board will need to elect a new prez.

I'm a little bummed.

Not burned out, just have some fundamental issues with how things are done at the sheltering level. I'll still be supporting and volunteering, just not on the board.

I won't make specific statements publicly. nudge, nudge, wink wink.

Oh, I have heard it ALL when it comes to boards.

Actually, our present board is really a great group. We are all focused on the same goals, and are very compatible.

It's the running of the shelter that I have the most issues with. That, and the fact that I have the feeling I have no control over other matters. Like shelter publicity and the corporate image.

I've lost control, and don't know how to get it back, under the guidelines of our bylaws.

Aaaahhh, okay. An equally frustrating situation. You may actually have recourse, regardless of your bylaws. I do have quite a lot of expertise in this area, so if you want to PM me and pick my brain please feel free. I've spent a lot of time dealing with nonprofit legal issues.

Sorry you're bummed, Dave, but sounds like the right move in light of your hands apparently being tied. Nothing worse than being placed into a management position but not being actually allowed to run things as you know they need to be run.

Mary, if you need help with anything, I'm available. I'd like to help out, if you feel you have a need for something, let me know. I'm pretty good at manning info tables, I know the breed, I have 20 years volunteering experience, and might, maybe, be able to help with fundraising, although it's not my strongest point.

I think that would be great. We could set up a covered crate for her, as well, if she needs a time-out.
