crossposters. I mean, I understand they are trying to do their part to get out the SOS on dogs in need. That's great and all. But sometimes, crossposters just get under my skin. Don't people realize that crossposting is the EASY part? Don't they get that rescues are FULL? Don't they understand that rescue workers have JOBS and LIVES and cannot, at the demand of a crossposter, just drop everything, respond to an email, pick up the phone or run out and grab a dog? There are some pushy-ass, seemingly oblivious-to-reality crossposters out there. Send the emails, I expect them, RPB is listed everywhere as a rescue and advocacy org, we get rescue requests all day long. It pains me that MOST of the time, I have to simply delete the email, knowing the sender rec'd our auto-response stating that at this time, we cannot take in any dogs. I think most crossposters get that. It's the emails that state "This dog is in need, please go get him now" that just annoy the crap out of me. That's exactly what someone told me matter of factly this morning, in response to the auto-reply that stated we have no spots right this second. "Go get him now." Right. Ok. Because it's just that easy. Sorry for the vent, but I needed it this morning.

even better the indignant emails that come back and say thanks for nothing and you call your organization a rescue! *sigh*

I've been dealing with another rescue over one of their adopted dogs for the last week... it's hard to say no, but sometimes you have to. I have given her every resource I can think of within reasonable distance and hoped for the best. It's a pretty good story, but it wears me out just thinking about it. It reflects some really crappy rescue/shelter bias/stereotype/bs in this state.
The worst are the owner surrenders. One lady we told no to ended up dumping her dog off in a different neighborhood than the one she lives in.. Luckily a friend of mine found it, took it in and found it a home. Judy has had people drop dogs over her fence several times.
People just suck.

People need to understand that you can't save them all. You save the ones you can... the non-human aggressive dogs, the stable dogs, the healthy dogs; they come first. When you have room, you save the dogs you can work with. Sometimes, there's just no room for any kind of dog. It's the sad, unpleasant reality of rescue and sheltering. Some of them die, through no fault of their own. You move on to the next, because there is always the next.
I clear crossposters from the shelter facebook page. Thank goodness I don't have to deal with the emails to the shelter. Which, by the way, is full, much like all the others that don't schedule killings, or call themselves no-kill. No room to take out-of-area animals.

i really like the ones that say "if you dont take him/her i will be forced to bring the dog to the shelter and it will be euthanized and be your fault"... yah ok.... trying to blame ME wont make me take your dog that much faster .... aint gonna happen....
i swear people live in rose colored glasses, they just dont get it and most dont want to

Agh...I had to hide many of the FB crossposters. Yanno, these dogs are going to be *destroyed* tomorrow AM, so get them NOW. Oy, I can't take it. I never had to deal with those things when I worked in rescue, the president handled all of that. But I know some folks gets mighty pissy when you say that you are at capacity.

I agree, its horrible when owner surrenders try to make it *your* fault for *abandoning* their animals in times of need. On the flip side, from personal experience you also have some horrible rescues that tell you only how awesome their dog is and how perfect it is only to find they forgot to mention how human agrressive it is, or how it actually isn't animal friendly or some thing. Or, as many of you know, the rescue that just flat out refused to give me any info on a dog i very clearly wanted to adopt (only to find out the dog is now at Rescue Ink years later).
But yeah, sometimes the "This dog only has until 5pm Today to live!" kinds of posts just make my heart weary (but not as much as the 50,000 people posting "I wish I could save them all" or the ones that say "I would take him but I live so far away (and when transport is mentioned they decline for another reason)".
