www.sportsrageous.com/animal-rights-group-to-refurbish-vick-dogfighting-compound-05-30-2011An animal rights group has purchased the five-bedroom Virginia home where Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick formerly ran a dog fighting ring. The group has plans to refurbish the property and create a dog rehabilitation center, according to ESPN. The rehabilitation center will take in dogs who have been penned or chained. The buyer was Dogs Deserve Better out of Tipton, PA. They bought the home for $600,000. Tamira Thayne, founder and CEO of the organization, said in a release on DogsDeserveBetter.org, “Purchasing this property and in effect giving it back to the victims of the abuse that occurred here is a very powerful step for animal advocates and our country’s dogs alike. “We are sending a message to those who want to abuse and fight dogs that a new day is dawning in America, a day where dogs are treated with the love and respect they deserve as companions to humans. Here’s to you, Dogs!” The release also states that the center will be called the Good Newz Rehab Center for Chained and Penned Dogs, a play on the name of Vick’s former compound, “Bad Newz Kennels.”

Creepy is the word. I bet if they had had any actual involvement in the case, they'd want nothing to do with that property. (The discription Donna gave of the scene there - particularly the pool they used to drown the dogs - will haunt me forever.)

I know I'm being totally weird, but I just picture the rescued dogs there being really stressed. What if the smells and bad energy of the place are still in the air??
