It’s been a while since I reported on Sedona. Sorry, no new pictures as she has been uncooperative, and she is much more stubborn than me. Plus she has on her side the sympathy factor that makes me not push issues too much. We’re still finding our balance. Things have improved in the Lola/Sedona relationship. Their skirmish may have been an isolated incident, but I’m not counting on that. When they are allowed contact without a barrier, I have one of them in my sight at all times. They’re doing just fine. Lola is being her normal aloof self, and Sedona is the teasing “Love me please!” submissive little angel. Rocky is still a non-issue, as his focus has always been, and continues to be, me. Why are/were all my males clingy, but the females very independent? ??? Sedona had a very rough two weekends. Memorial Day weekend, both Sunday and Monday, were very hard on her. The neighbors had parties both days with lots of screaming kids. Sunday the party lasted from noon til way past midnight, and she stayed in her crate the entire time, refusing to come out. Monday was nearly as bad. This past weekend I discovered that I cannot play the tv much louder than a whisper and that I may have been causing her discomfort because of that. I watched Cloverfield yesterday, and it had a lot of screaming, explosions, and some beeping noises that chased her off the sofa running for the safety of her crate. I’m now learning to watch everything with subtitles and without theatre effects. I had to turn the subwoofer off. I have been watching a lot more tv than usual, and it’s usually just to have some white noise to drown out the outside sounds. But it’s turning me zombie. I am slowly peeling back her layers, and each one reveals a new problem that seems to always be noise related, or goes back to her fear of the outdoors. It helps that now I am more in tune to her noise issues. But at the core is this fun, funny, loving little clown that wants to trust so badly, but is compromised by her fears. She’s trying just as hard as I am.

Glad to hear that you are learning so much about her. I really hope you can help her get over her fears and become more relaxed with life!

Thanks for the Sedona update. She may be a work in progress, but it must be so satisfying and fun to watch her slowly emerge from her fearful shell.

She has her good times, too. Last night she was feeling frisky, and as I was sitting on the sofa she got behind me and started pawing at my back and neck, dancing all around behind me. Suddenly she stopped and started corncobbing my neck and ears.

finally an update lol!!!! that sucks about the parties and noise when i had her i had the tv loud, but my shows were animal planet and reality tv lol, so the noises didnt affect her . that is good with her and lola, maybe she was just being tooo pesky for lola lol keep up the good work dave. oh and the male clingy thing, rufus is like that too, he is more like a drama queen then a real boy dog lol. my female gsd was VERY independent and more bitchy and didnt demand all my attention. rufus will bitch paw slap anyone who is petting him and stops, he will smack them with his paw to keep going... must be a clingy drama queen male dog thing lol...

Here's a pic of Sedona on her master's bed... took it this morning. She was avoiding the last trip outside. She thinks funny... She always has her one ear erect and searching for sounds. Like radar... I love this little bulldog.

Awww miss that babygirl! She was scared of the TV when I first got her, but got over that real quick because the TV is alllllways on in my house. Sounds like she resensitized due to the especially noisy weekend. I'd be curious to see how she recovers over the course of the week, specifically related to the TV noise.
Please give her a big hug and kiss from me.

All the while the TV was on, comedy all night. She ignored it.

Has she gained any weight? Was having difficulty with putting pounds on her and although she wasn't really UNDERweight, I thought she could do with putting a lb or two on.

She's not as ripped, so maybe she has. Or I'm just used to her condition. She's a wirey dog, though, and I don't want to add much now. Maybe for winter.

Mary, 36.8 lbs. Lola is 44.6. We had a weigh-in tonight. Think UFC. I have to stop posting about Lola and Sedona, I jinx myself. The girls had a go tonight. It's been so long since I have had to deal with sensitivities that I just kind of chug along. I'm getting my radar back though. I weighed the girls tonight, Sedona first. When I weighed Lola, as I put her down they were both a little excited. Sedona is an in-your-face kind of dog, and she tried to make Lola play. Lola didn't feel like it. Sedona put a paw on Lola's shoulder, and that's all it took. I saw all of it as it unfolded, was thinking and prepared, and grabbed collars. I got Lola in her crate, and put Sedona in hers, too. Time-outs all around. No contact, and each was licking my face when it was over. They had a jolly good time, but I was spent afterwards. Adrenaline is a powerful hormone, and makes you feel ALIVE! This time I kept my wits about me. As I was trying to cool Lola down, dog in each hand (thumb actually) I remembered all the rules in separating dogs... keep your cool, don't yell as it can feed the fire, above all avoid contact. With a collar under each thumb, I was able to talk Lola down enough for her to listen to the command to get in her "bed". I was then able to get Sedona in hers. Anyone who says that people train these dogs to fight is an idiot. These dogs WANTED to fight, and that's how the breed was developed... to want to fight. Both of them were wide-eyed, tails wagging, pushing forward, smiles on their faces. They wanted a go, and it had nothing to do with food, dominance, toys or me. So, we're back to separation. No biggie, I've done it before. I don't love them any less, and I don't think any less of them because of it. They are what they are, and if they never are friends, that's okay. If I didn't think I could deal with this, I would never have adopted a third dog.

i like my dogs lean .. and when i saw sedona i thought she looked fantastic but thats just my opinion I know what you mean. She was pretty ripped when I took her in, and that's okay for a performance dog conditioned for it's work, but it's not what I would want all the time. I've learned over time a dog needs a little fat, just in case of an illness. If the dog can't or won't eat over a few days, it needs some standby energy. She only needs a pound or two. BTW, I weighed her last Saturday morning, and she'd lost a half pound. So I made a batch of satin balls, seeing as she's getting the same portion as Rocky is at 52 lbs and she's not even maintaining. She's getting her SB in the evenings, we'll see how that goes. Stress and anxiety is burning up the calories, I guess.
