So a friend of mine that owns an adorable pit named Jack Lemon she got from the rescue BARC in Brooklyn NY got news from her dogwalker. Seems like he found an abandoned 8ish year old pitbull they named Randy and are trying to help him find a home. He is being fostered with a friend of the walker's because he is not dog-friendly (and the walker owns a few dogs). Here's his page: www.adoptapet.com/pet5829290.htmlAny suggestions? They contacted all the local rescues (which are obviously full and then some, and others outright won't take pitbulls). How can they best help Randy find a home? All suggestions welcomed ps: Randy has mange and infected ears right now but the walker is covering all medical bills and is even willing to get another foster for Randy and continue to cover med bills and I think food and supplies.

He reminds me of Chubs in the third picture. What a sweet looking boy.

Unfortunately I'm going to be stuck without being able to take in a foster until I move and settle in someplace else (hopefully bigger, where crate-n-rotate isn't such a murderous proposition as it was when I had Sedona). Can't go wrong with bringing in a foster that already has a sponser. HOPING someone steps up for this guy. Has he been officially eval'd? Do you know the results? I typically don't crosspost, but will in select cases.

I don't he has had any official evals by a pro dog trainer. The guy that found him is a dog walker and his friend has been fostering. According the walker though Randy was a total gentleman at the vet's (even though he's all covered in mange and has a bad ear infection). He is described as very smooshy and pretty gentle.

ps: i think in the second pic he is a dead ringer for my Chubs.
I've told them they should get some better shots of him and create a little FB page, it seems people really dig that. Plus easier to crosspost).

Mary, how does one go about getting a dog professional evaluated anyway? Like call in a dog trainer?

Mary, how does one go about getting a dog professional evaluated anyway? Like call in a dog trainer? I'd be careful with "professional evaluations". I mostly only trust people with breed knowledge who are involved in rescue, know what the breed is supposed to be, and have some clue as to what they are doing in terms of testing for a dog's "hot buttons". TBH I take very little stock in evalutions done by MOST people(they are usually just following a simple recipe), but some sort of "official" evaluation is better than no evaluation at all. And for the most part, at this stage, one-shot evals aren't something I put much stock in anymore, anyway. But for crossposting purposes, I like to hear that that the dog got at least some sort of intitial, formal eval., then maybe is living in a home setting with someone who can vouch for the dog's people-loving temperament. (Kinda like Randy is living with someone, so that's a good thing, vs just sitting in a shelter.) Yeah, sorry, I'm sooooo fricken anal when it comes to crossposting. And now I'm rambling........ Anyway, I'd be happy to post Randy's link on RPB's Facebook page, or maybe Michele can do it today since I can't get on FB while I'm stuck at work.

I totally understand about not wanting to cross-post an dog that hasn't be evaluated by a professional (because I understand that someone people will say anything to get a dog adopted). I personally haven't met the dog yet, but if you want I can get the contact info from the walker or the foster dad if you want to ask more questions/get more info (very reasonable request). Let me know, the only reason I know about Randy is that the dog walker walks an old derby friend of mine's pitbull Jack and she knows I'm very pro-pitbull and know a lot of rescues and shelters.
