I was in the middle of typing up a reply when Jessica called me. She asked me if I was going to give her the dog or not, so I just told her no. I told her what the sheriff told me, and she then asked that I have Chuck fill out the adoption app and tear the other one up. She has already moved out of the area, and if I was going to let her have the dog then we would have to meet in Grand Island.
Still will go out there and check on Scarlett tomorrow. No worries, I won't be going out there alone. I hope to never have to deal with anything like this again. It almost makes me not want to take in and re-home another dog again!

The day went a lot better then a anticipated. *yay* When I got into town I went to the sheriffs office to let them know what I was up to. Diane, the dispatch lady I spoke with before, had agreed to meet me there, and we went out there together. She is involved in rescue and I figured would be a good set of eyes. The fenced portion of yard that Scarlett has access to was fine. The water bucket sits right under the house tap. She had a few balls and a chewie out there. As for Scarlett, she looks great. Growing like a weed, I was a bit surprised! She was happy and had a lot of wiggle butt power. I saw no signs of shyness, apprehension, timidness etc with her interactions with Chuck. She was happy to greet us and acted like the crazy spaz she is. She has a crate inside the house and looks to be a bit spoiled The Great Dane, he's huge. He's boney, but he was not emaciated. He looked healthy to me. He does not share a yard with Scarlett except for pee breaks. He is not keeping the dane, he just agreed to take him until they could find a home for him. His two farm dogs are fine as well. The farm animals too looked ok to me as well. I am glad I didn't have to take her home with me. He has never been reported for any animal cruelty, neglect, etc. So I feel alright with my decision. I think Jessica was just trying to play dirty and get the dog. I do not appreciate being brought into it at all. It really shook my confidence in choosing a home for future animals. But, now I don't feel so crappy.

Yes, you absolutely want someone in uniform with you just to be on the safe side.
