His description says PitMix though. So I'm like umm, ok. I just thought he was cute and a little funny looking. (And he has a RED NOSE!!!)
Notice how there are TONS of Blackmouth curs on PF now, though?

Lulz at Blackmouth Cur/Boxer. Interesting that it also says Pit mix. I find it strange that folks come up with some off the wall breed mixes for obvious APBTs or mixes...but then list dogs that have little to no APBT in them as Pit mixes. I remember when I adopted Murphy, they had him listed as Catahoula/Lab mix. Now, Catahoulas are obviously kinda common around here...so it's possible that there's some in there somewhere. But he doesn't much look like either breed, the AC officer told me the guy that surrendered Murphy and his sis told them that's what they were...and so they had to list them as that. Dunno if that's totally true....

He is gorgeous! Who wrote his description!? Sounds like a middle schooler who volunteers at the shelter did it...
How common are blackmouth curs? In all honesty, I had never even heard of them until I took one of those find the Pit Bull quizzes.

Handsome fellow, whatever he is! I think Eko was listed as a American Staffordshire, Pit Bull Terrier mix. The labels I've seen in some cases are so ridiculous. At least they recognized it was a dog.

Granny is a black mouth cur. They're not nearly as common as Petfinder would have you think.

I find it strange that folks come up with some off the wall breed mixes for obvious APBTs or mixes...but then list dogs that have little to no APBT in them as Pit mixes. I've noticed that a LOT also. I had a lady at shelter tell me when we were looking for another dog before we got Bella, that they don't like to list a dog as APBT or APBT mix unless they have proof it is. I mean I guess that's good in the sense that they don't call every muscular build dog that comes through an APBT (like the shelter closer to my home). I think it can be bad when obviously the dog is APBT or a APBT mix and they say it's not and then adopt it out to someone who has no clue about the breed.

liberty humane has a dog labeled a shepherd mix... its clearly NOT... www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20737987My name is Adonia and I am a young Shepherd mix who is a beautiful brindle color. I am a total love bug! I love just about everyone I meet! Though Im not terribly playful now, I may become more so once in the home. I seem polite, playful, and interested in kids. Im comfortable with all types of handling and, though I dont love having to give up my food, I will if I have to. I am interested in making the acquaintance of even the most unusual strangers (hooded, limping, etc) and, if given a little time (and a treat!), I will make friends with them. I tend to be stiff and uncertain around other dogs. While I will tolerate them in small doses, I do not like them in my face or jumping on me (I mean, who does?!). I may well be happier as a people-centric dog. When I came into the shelter I seemed to know some basic commands, like sit, down, and even shake!!!! While in foster care during hurricane irene, Adonia's foster home learned this:"Adonia is a very calm dog; she was great outdoors, and came when called while off leash. She doesnt really know her new name yet, but comes when you give her a cluck cluck sound. She clearly has been a house dog before because she did not have one accident the entire weekend. She always waited to go outside to do her business. She loves her crate and went in there to sleep without even having to close the door behind her. She spent the majority of the hurricane snuggled on the couch, and when she was not napping, her active nose was leading her around. Her tail wags non-stop any time she sees a new person, but her excitement is always controlled, and her greeting are always polite with no jumping. If the pictures are not clear, she is not a particularly big dog. She tipped the scales at 36 lbs, she is a great sized dog for anyone, children included, to handle. dreamboat annie - lab mix www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20584338My name is Dreamboat Annie and I am a sweet gal! I make friends quickly with new people and love to be petted and massaged. I enjoy playing with toys but haven't learned to return them. I dont like people around my food, so Ill need a patient, experienced adopter who can help me get more comfortable with this. Due to my resource guarding, I should be in an experienced, adult-only household. I am uncomfortable with some handling (paws, muzzle) and will need a patient adopter who will help me become more accepting of it. Though I may get a little shy with novelty and unusual new people (limping, hooded, ), if given a little time I will make friends with them. Patient introductions with people who concern me giving me treats will help me get more comfortable with them. I don't know any basic commands but will work for a taste of my favorite treats! I definitely need to learn to walk nicely on leash and to not jump on people! then there is Jemmina: a dutch shepherd.... www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20522566My name is Jemima and Im a friendly gal! I love just about everyone I meet! I am interested in making the acquaintance of even the most unusual strangers (hooded, limping, etc) and, if given a little time (and a treat!), I will make friends with them. I enjoy playing with toys but haven't learned to return them. Im comfortable with all types of handling. I guard my resources (food, chewies, ) , so Ill need a patient, experienced adopter who can work with me on this. Due to my resource guarding, I should be in an experienced, adult-only household. I'm not particularly interested in other dogs, but I am polite and appropriate when meeting them. Im really more a people-centric dog. I lived with another dog in the past. I have already had some training (sit, stay, shake) and am eager to learn more for a taste of my favorite treats! One thing I definitely need to learn is to walk nicely on leash!
