I am doing a program on adoption. My goal is to spread word on responsible ownership in the community. therealpitbull.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=allrpbspecificnewsevents&thread=8842&page=1Will be discussing everything I can think of including what it has cost to raise Rocky. and examples of possible costs. I was thinking about suggesting fostering to those that have a stable home situation and dog savvy, but maybe just not sure can afford a pet. For example young people just out of college. people over 65 on fixed income etc. Maybe someone is not sure if they are ready to commit lifetime to a dog but they would not mind temporary company. Would it be acceptable for me to suggest fostering for these types of situations. There are foster programs that supply vet care and food right? I am located in NY on the NJ/PA/NY border. WOuld love some rescue( all breeds too)recommendations. Some I know of but not necessarily aware of their programs. Sunrays Faiths Hope THis one is real close to my area but dont know anything about them www.occretrieverrescue.com/foster.htmlGuiding eyes is also doing a program so I will also give out that info

most foster homes only supply vet care and flea/tick/heartworm meds. the food is usually on the foster home, along with if the foster home makes a mistake and the dog gets hurt the foster has to eat the medical bills. some groups supply the food and vet care, some only supply vet care. each group is different
fostering is good as it gets the dog out of a shelter and into a home, but if the rescue isnt dog savvy and cant test a dog properly the foster home could have some issues with the dog
first time fosterers should start with volunteering with a rescue/shelter to see what is involved, and then move from there to fostering. some fosters have a hard time giving up a dog and wont foster again (had that happen to me, a foster home i had got so emotional at the home check she cried so bad i had to ask her to go outside as she was upsetting the new owners to the point they started to cry)..
