I now have a reputation from my last program to get people crying. Now I am working on an adoption program. Preparing for a four legged friend. I will be stressing adopt not shop. And responsible ownership. When my mom adopted her dog from Petsalive in Middletwon NY. There was a free DVD documentary Tails to remember. I just watched it and think I want to show it as part of the program. Do you all think its too much? what is opinions. I do plan to state my opinions about if you go to this shelter to adopt they have many dogs and other pets to choose from but they also have rapid turn around. But are also willing to easily take dog back and give a different dog. Also I think they need to learn more about pit bulls and not have them in cages next to each other where they can fence fight. The woman narrating the movie has since passed away and Best Friends came in a few years ago and helped the organization to learn to run a sanctuary and helped them clean and repair and put in proper kennnels. They have come a long way. view documentary here www.sidewalkangelsfoundation.org/click on petsalive on bar on bottom. link to documentary located there. Sidewalk angels foundation made the DVD their founders Rob and Marisol Thomas are in the documentary and the music is Robs music. Disclaimer- First time I am ever hearing or reading about their foundation so I know nothing about them. This is not a promotion for their cause or music. Just for the information on a local pet sanctuary where attendants to my program might consider adopting a pet. Heck if I had room for a horse I would be there today. LOL

All I'm going to say about Pets Alive right now is that we've been asked to get involved in some sort of Pit Bull-focused event they are having next year. I think you are right CA, they need some Pit Bull help.
I haven't watched the documentary yet.
Rob and Marisol are bigtime supporters of PA.

Oh I know they need help. I told them when my mom adopted Aura that I volunteered for RPB. It all came up when they saw me walking one of their long time resident Pit Bulls and it was noticed that she was not pulling me and all the people were amazed that I was walking her as it usually takes a man. That is when I explained I own one of this breed and have good arm muscles LOL. Anyway of course they got excited and wanted me to volunteer up there. I was showing them Rockys sensation harness and they were hoping I could show how to use it some time. I just never got going with it. I know cause i was told that they had housed 2 pit bulls together one that was D/A cause she was in love with other dog so they thought that cured her. Do you know who Rob and Marisol are? And were you thinking about getting involved in the event

Yes, Rob Thomas is a recording artist. He was in the band Matchbox 20. I think he's solo now....actually not sure if he's recorded anything lately.
The logistics are sticky in terms of whether or not we'll get involved. They are also asking for referrals of other Pit Bulls orgs. I'm not sure I'd like to drive all the way up there to be "competeing" with orgs with conflicting messages. I'm still unclear as to what exactly they are trying to do.

Well they are maybe half hour drive for me if you want to send me up to get more information I could attempt to get a glimpse. and about Rob that explains why I liked the music and thought it was rather good for a shelter video's music. I liked Matchbox20 a lot. However the music worked in the documentary to get me all teary eyed.

I got a second email, they want to do a Pit Bull awareness thing. CA, how long of a drive do you think it would be from, say, Michele's house?

I googled from Cranford says 1 hr 30 min. So I suppose Maryellen is about right. Middletown NY is about 30 min for me. It takes me over an Hour to get to Michelle's but and at least 30 min to get to hamburg but I am guessing there is a direct route from your area to Middletown NY.

Ironically enough, my friend who I haven't heard from in a while (and is/was on the PA board) just emailed me last night to update me on a Pit Bull they were fostering and have since placed. So I'm going to talk to her about it when I go visit her and her hubby in the next week or two. I have my issues with Pets Alive but I am always willing and open to talk at least. I'm not interested in participating in a big "pit bull type dog" love fest. But if their goal is serious education, I may be up for it. Some PR with Rob Thomas couldn't hurt our cause, either

I am going to try to show the documentary today I came back on to read what you knew about Rob Thomas. Anyway The few times I was up at petsalive to adopt my moms dog I too had a few things I saw did not care for. However felt it was no different than any other shelter only they are very large. I do think they can benefit from pit bull education and I think they are open to it. They seemed to be hoping for me to come back and do some kind of thing showing my harness and walking pit bulls with them. They seemed real excited about that I was a pit bull person and a volunteer with RPB. They also were one of the few shelters that listened to what I had to say. The girls that work there are very young and impressionable. I do not like the rescuing dogs from other countries but one of their big supporters is a fighter from I think Puerto Rico and she is working on getting a rescue up and running down there but at this time I think they are shipping dogs from there to here. We have enough and this causes for mass turn around. They adopt out a mass amount of dogs per day. But the Pit Bulls are not flying out the door. Anyway got to get going to do my program but I would like to do something there if possible.
