The group that I shall still call NutJobsRUs...The check might be in the mail who knows. But what action can I take to make sureI'm getting the adoption fee back? I have the contact number for Sybil and her cell phone too and they have a site connected to Petfinder. I also have the vet name and address n phone that they used. They also have regular adoption weekends at Petco. So I can track em down. It's just like after another week or so if they don't send a refund... What would you do??? Hubby's ready to order a hit...kinda understand how he feels...

call the rescue . did you get a receipt from them when you gave them cash? if not, you will have a hard time proving you gave them cash..
you cant fight anything until they declin to give you your money back. i am sorry, but youy should have never given the kitten back until you got your fee back.... i would have told the girl to go scratch and when she brings back the money she gets the cat..

I know what you're saying but she didn't say she was taking the kitten back. She said there were a few tests the vet still had to run just to make sure she was healthy. When I called the next day to see how the kitten was doing that's when she said she wasn't bringing her back.
Like I said wouldn't there be some legal recourse? I have a vet slip with the $75-adoption fee paid on the bottom. We gave Best Friends their paperwork and adoption fee. They knew we had a dog from the very beginning. I know that was a deciding factor somewhere in there too. The person who came to the house was afraid of Opheila. Not because she growled or was aggressive but just a "Marley Welcome". Even leashed or in the yard she gives a big hello to people who come in the house for the first time. Then there was the catfood issue that shouldn't have been such a big issue and that the cats outside at the time weren't our cats and the two sitting INSIDE on the porch were sitting and not going anywhere. Rahhhh, sorry I keep going on but this is so stupid, guess Bloomsburg spoiled us into trusting in people sometimes, forgot we're back in Jersey

Sounds like you need to get their attention. A registered letter that states you expect a refund of the fees within two weeks or you will forced to take them to small claims court will show them you are not going to let this slide.

What did they say when you asked them to return the adoption fee?

This is Best Friends in Cranford? I used to work with them (I was their behavioral counselor) although I'm not sure who is still on the board. This does NOT sound like typical business for them, I've never heard of them doing something like this before. Who is the person you've been dealing with?

Rosa Joseph, like I said maybe I'm just over worrying...she said they would mail us a check to refund the fee. Maybe we will actually get it with no problem. Just the circumstances...having the kitten the few days, I mean I'm grateful I didn't get too attached ya know? The animals got used to her then she's gone again and fortunately Emmy accepted kitty was sick and isn't coming back. But like I said before; the food, the strays outside, Ophie, Emmy...yes in a perfect world she would have been an only kitten with holistic cat chow and her own room but really...if I was placing a cat and saw a group of big, friendly, way healthy looking cats in the house already that would be a definite plus right? I also feel that someone doing rescue work should know that bringing in a cat carrier is going to grab the attention of even a totally mellow dog. I really think she was petrified of Ophie and just didn't want to admit it. And Emmy can look amped up if you're not used to special kids, but she knows enough not to rough up animals...very gentle with them actually.
<I was thinking about that today, scoured the house looking for the camera and couldn't find it. There was Sushi and Ophie on the bed, Ophie had her head across Sushi's back sound asleep n'smiling. Sushi was washing himself and the dog and Emmy's foot that was sticking out of the blanket...busy guy...and of course killer doggie>
Sigh, I just want the refund and then wanna forget the whole stupid situation
